Looks pretty close - future cast looks like 8:40 is the worst for us (with this band) - pretty fast moving at least,
Lost power in South Orange as well. Transformer blew up in our back yard.
I'm still up from the winds and pressure drop.... *sigh*.
May as well get some work done...
Our power loss is pretty local. A tree branch landed on the lines. One of the three power-carrying lines is off the top of the utility pole. Not sure how many houses are affected but across the street they have power.
I noticed this morning the feed lines from the transformer to our power drop are severed. So those will have to be fixed as well.
Ours was about a square mile or so, but I don't know what the actual damage was. lasted about 3 hours.
Took the opportunity for a road trip to WaWa with my son to load up on WaWa food.
Has anyone else ever marveled at the incredible selection of potato chips and other similar snack foods offered by WaWa? I mean, they've gotta have 15 derivatives of Cheetos alone. (This is the new store in Springfield. YWWMV)
Pretty amazing. Picked up some Utz Crab flavored chips.
(am I in the wrong thread?)
Fairly certain (though I can't 100% know for sure) I saw a tornado associated with the warning near NYC last night. A circulation developed over East Rutherford and became tornado warned just before crossing the river. I had a view from my apartment in NYC and saw several power flashes right underneath the circulation. Waiting for NWS to verify, but there was a clear debris signature on radar.
someone tweeted about a possible tornado in NYC also. There was a video showing all kinds of debris whipping around the street.
As the wind picked up, my ears were listening for that 'train' sound, and I was ready to wake the kids and get us all downstairs.
I heard that 'train' sound in the wind only once, and it was the night large trees were uprooted on Midland Blvd -- probably about a decade ago.

I remember that night. We lived on Summit Ave around the corner. My neighbor was standing on her covered back porch and said she watched the tree in my other neighbor's back yard suddenly twist 180 degrees and sending splinters everywhere. It was an oooold tree and landed on three lots, including right on one house.
That storm was a declared microburst, not a tornado. The damage from that microburst was severe all over town, most dramatically in Midland Blvd where it seemed that the entire line of trees on the middle island was taken down by the wind.
70 mph gust on Staten Island. I suppose Coumo will blame that on New Jersey as well.

Whatever it was, it definitely made the 'train' sound that is also heard with a tornado.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch.
A line of strong storms is moving west across New Jersey. Although likely to be brief, storms could bring thunder, lightning, and wind gusts up to 50 mph in the next hour or two. The watch continues until 2:00am.
