Pet Peeves

I know that I have worse than pet peeves than this, but this is the most recent...I will add more, I'm sure, as they come to me...

WHY do you offer your hand to me to shake, when you KNOW that it is wet with sweat?

My current pet peeve is when people leave their cell phones at their desk and their acquantainces keep calling every minute and a half. For the past 10 minutes I've been listening to someone's phone ring on the other side of the cubicle. Can't the person leave a message???????? What kind of lunitic just calls someone constantly....They're NOT THERE!!!!!

(I realize the ringing could be the tone of "you've got a message" but it doesn't seem like it.)

Why do people walk up the escalator but then come to a dead stop near the top before stepping off? That drives me bonkers.

The store and supermarket receipts that fade. Unless you make a copy of the receipt you might need as a record, you will soon be unable to read it.

Speaking of receipts - why are they so long now? You buy one thing and you get a piece of paper a foot long at some stores.

Drives me zooey.

People that are afraid of the escalator and the revolving door... Weirdest story? A woman---possibly from Mars---took the revolving door the wrong way (to the left insteasd of to the right)... There were about 10 people standing around me and we all looked at each other incredulously--none of us could believe that it even worked that way! Unfreaking-believable!!!

Here's my latest pet peeve---people who pronounce words that start with "st..." and pronounce it as though it is "scht.." I thought Michelle Obama gave a great speech, but it srove me NUTS every time she said "stand schtrong!" and if she used the word STRONG once she used it a dozen times. It is not a speech defect because she can say STOP and STAND why not STRONG?
This is more common than not.
I hate it. It drives me CRAZY and I want to SCREAM (not schcream)

Bring back the sibilant S!

just me being anal

Scho? You think there is schomthing wrong with this? I think you
schould not be scho conschending to thosche of usch with schpeech impediments...

People driving in traffic, When they floor it to go three feet and slam on the breaks again. what is the point? unless they are TRYING to empty their gas tanks.

People who stand still on escalators and ride in the middle, Come ON people! STOP being so lazy! Get out of the way (move right) or move yer arse! right up there with able bodied people taking elevators at the Short Hills Mall because they don't want to take the stairs - NO WONDER Americans are overweight!

People who wait 10 minutes with directionals on in Maplewood village for a parking space, backing up traffic for blocks, just so they can have the spot nearest kings when they are perfectly capable of walking the 30 feet to the door from another vacant spot.(This was a HUGE one for me, when I lived in Maplewood, now it only ticks me off when I visit)

I COULD go on and on and .... well you get the idea.

The goober tonight who gridlocked Sloan Street waiting for a chance to make an illegal left turn into a parking spot.

Had a cow-orker once who used to leave her pager (remember those) on her desk. We started hiding it in her desk ... just to get her attention. She eventually got better at taking it with her, so we didn't have to listen to it go off.

You might want to consider just switching off the cell phone, or turning off the ringer, the next time that happens. It's a legitimate response to a disruption in the office.

I've got another one (I think I'm just getting warmed up):

People who walk their dogs on those crazy expand-o-leashes, and let the dogs run all over the sidewalk, making it impossible to get by.

1)people who illegally park in handicap parking spots and 2)drunk drivers

People who drive like they're drunk, but, in actuality, turn out to be talking on their CELL PHONES!

Condescending and patronizing people!!! I LOATHE when someone speaks to me in a patronizing tone...

Also, any sort of proselytizing...

i've said this one before but it's still top of my list...people waiting for the food samples to be finished cooking at Costco. they hover like vultures to get a free sample of some odd food product. I have no problem with the swoop and go method of obtaining free samples...but WAITING for the food. I don't get it. Oh and if you wait...move your flippin cart out of the middle of the aisle.

I don't like to race up to a red light and then slam on my brakes, so, I gradually slow down as I approach the red light. It's less wearing on the brakes and tires and makes for a smoother ride for me and for my passengers. There's always some asshat behind me who honks. I imagine s/he's in a hurry to get to the red light.

Often, when I'm driving down Oakland to Valley, if the light at the bottom of the hill is red, I'll slow down to observe the renovation progress being made on a house on the left near the light. (It looks very nice, too.) It's a RED light. Inevitably, someone honks because they're in a hurry to get to the red light.

Ok, Hank, I guess you don't know that I am a newbie, and therefore did not know there was one already; I would have just revived that one, if I did.

Oh, and not to mean, but kinda goes back to my "condescending" peeve.

The driver who is in such a hurry that when I am making a right turn from a street with one lane each way, will read my signal light, see me slow down, and then pass me on the left, crossing the double yellow lines. My car may be blocking his vision and there could possibly be a car turning into his path.

Those double yellow lines are there for a reason.

I do. Especially when I've been standing patiently, and somebody shoves in front of me to grab one.

Or when somebody grabs for themselves, and their three kids, and takes two or three for each of them ... so the entire tray is emptied by one vulture.

I hate it when people leave their shopping carts right in the middle of the aisle....it drives me nuts!!!!:devil::confused:

I hate all other drivers.....

One of my pet peeves is when someone who is making a left turn doesn't pull over enough to the center to let the other cars pass. They just sit in the center of the lane totally oblivious that there is a huge line of cars waiting behind them and could easily get by if they had just moved over a bit and then of course, everyone except them misses the light.

I hate everyone...

Coming over to my desk 10 seconds after sending me an email and asking 'Have you read my email?'

Replying All with a Thank You in response to a 'Done' or 'Completed' email.

Drivers that have to pass me, just to cut in front of me in order to take an exit when there are no cars behind me.

Slowpokes on the left lane pacing another car on the middle lane and not getting the hint to speed up or move out of the lane.

SUV drivers.

People at the bus line that wait until they have boarded to start digging for change to pay the fare.

Software Engineers.

Oh boy, I could go on.
