Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood

so I saw it last night and there were some great scenes and some great performances but overall i was underwhelmed. It needed some serious editing; a 100-minute version might have been more engaging.

I’ve always loved Brad Pitt (my man crush?) and be did not disappoint. (Nobody wears clothes like Pitt.)  Leo was also very good. Amazing to spot Lena Dunham in the Spahn Ranch scenes. The whole Bruce Dern scene (“George”) should have been edited out.

Nobody does visceral action and violence and Hollywood homage like QT. As I said, some scenes were wonderful. But the end was surprising and obviously not at all what I expected  No duh.

This is not for the kiddies, by kiddies I mean millennials, who may have never heard of these murders, or, anointed them with a cultural significance worthy of a three hour film.I’m wondering how much tension would be conveyed as the whole plot hurls toward an event I’d never heard of, as compared to oldies who do anticipate what’s coming and can therefore “get” the ending.

DeCaprio was so incredibly good.  His work here is masterful.

who hasn’t heard of the Manson murders? They may not get how they shaped/changed culture but I think it’d be hard to find adults that don’t know about Manson and Sharon Tate’s fate. Agreed though that it might not have the same impact. To me, the ending was one of the saddest few minutes of film I’d ever seen. So poignant and heartbreaking to think what might have been... I think that’s also a testament to Margo Robbies work. Lots of talk about how she had so few lines but she was able to create a character that was so sweet, good and full of love and excitement for her life and her craft that it made it all the sadder.

Agreed on Leo- his best performance ever.
