If you use it mainly as described and all you usually have plugged in is a power cord, then go for it, it would be fine.
More that you'll need an adapter to use a USB thumb drive- some people use those a lot.
Any other downsides to this machine I should be thinking of? ( I know it costs a lot!)
Not a tech guru, but if you need speed and portability, it's a great choice.
I never connect a monitor, my printer is wireless. I occasionally transfer files from a stick but that's about it.
This site gives a heads-up when a newer version may be released.

I think we will be in the market for a second laptop later this year, so we don't have to share one (it's a lot like trying to share the TV remote!). I'll keep this thread in mind. Then again, I could probably deal with just having an iPad for myself and let him have the laptop.
My spouse and I haven't shared a computer since sometime in the 1990s. We stopped making our kids share when they got to middle school. Usually there are more computers than people in our house.
Ick on sharing a laptop. Double ick on sharing an iTunes account or a bathroom.
It doesn't really bother us that much, apart from sometimes having to wait a little while so the other person can do something on it.
Although, come to think of it, we used to have the laptop and a desktop in our house in West Orange, so I'm not sure why we stopped having two when the desktop became obsolete. Huh. I guess I've really gotten used to it! The iPhones help, because I can do a lot of what I want to do on the phone.

When my kids were still at home, all four of us shared a bathroom. But we each had our own computer. (We do have a second bathroom, but not on the same floor with the bedrooms.)
