Apparently today, February 20th, is National Muffin Day. I’m not sure it was established via act of Congress, but I don’t need much of an excuse to bake stuff. Happy National Muffin Day everyone!!
PENNSYLVANIA, USA — It's a long-standing tradition in parts of northeastern Pennsylvania. It's Hoodie Hoo Day.
Folks go outside and yell 'Hoodie Hoo' in an attempt to scare away winter. People are also encouraged to find things that remind them of spring and make lots of noise.
Regrettably, ever since the long-standing tradition’s creation in the ’80s, it has been marred by a rupture between the “Hood-ies!” and the “Hoo-dees!”

I'm not much of a fan of the muffins.
But I will raise a glass to National Tartar Sauce Day and National Love Your Pet Day.
February 21 is also Youth Mother Languages Day! https://www.un.org/en/observances/mother-language-day I’ve had some fun surprising a new friend, Katharine, greeting her and thanking her for a favour, in her native Hungarian. I’ve also greeted a new friend in Croatian, spoken in French and in Greek with two other friends, and greeted my sister in Polish. Fun!! 😃
Speaking of things that are best with a little salt, it’s time to get out the pico de gallo and observe National Tortilla Chip Day.
Here’s an LA Times biography/obituary about Rebecca Webb Carranza, the woman who first fried up some tortillas into the crunchy delightful chip we’ve come to treasure. At least in my house.
Thé last day of February, every year, is Rare Diseases Day. People like me, with over-protective immune systems (Mast Cell Activation disorders, so we’re allergic to everything, potentially), people with all kinds of organ issues we’re just starting to understand, people with various combinations of sensory impairments, people with ‘invisible disabilities’ - this is our Day to celebrate our resilience! Have some fun! Speak up! Or help raise $$ for research and treatment! It’s your choice.
My brother informs me that 28 February is also Sadie Hawkins Day. 🕺🏻💃 Care to dance?
I’m sure you remember that 8 March is International Women’s Day. Wear purple for dignity, white for innocence and green (preferably a bright, bold green) for Hope.
It’s also Peanut Cluster Day. - Yum! Munch away as you observe National Retro Video Games Day and triumph over neighbours and friends. (Try not to feel ancient as you rediscover the games of yore; think of it as recreational rediscovery)
And @DaveSchmidt - it’s National Prooofreading Day! Woohoo! 😁🤓😁
I’m fascinated that you (general ‘you’, it seems a common US thing) immediately think of pies as dessert. Most Brits and Aussies/Kiwis would think savoury first - a delicious meat pie (usually steak) served with tomato sauce, or perhaps a ‘meat pie floater’ which is a meat pie served with mushy peas.
I’ll admit I first thought of an apple pie but that was hours after I nearly had quiche for dinner (crust less pie). 😁
