Morrow Memorial sale this year?

Will Morrow Memorial be having the annual resale event this year. I've been saving some good stuff but haven't seen any information about it.

@krnl People have been dropping off items in droves--signs up around Morrow with sale and dropoff dates.  It's on!

I went this morning.  It is in full swing.

I found the list of items that they're taking this year:

https://morrowchurch.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/2021-Morrow-Turnover-Sale-Acceptable-and-Unacceptable-Items.pdf

But couldn't find the schedule for the actual sale dates.  There's something on Instagram, but I can't read it, because I try to avoid Facebook and Facebook-owned sites like Instagram.

Can someone please post the sale dates?

Hopefully this is readable. This morning’s Turnover was great - not terribly crowded, not too hot and lots of great items to peruse!

They had a table of linens at the turnover sale when I was there yesterday.  Not sure who donated them.  They looked new and from the same source.

Those linens came from a high end Upper West Side hotel that went out of business.  They are nice!

And it’s not just linens - which I believe are Sferra brand - the hotel also donated gorgeous bath robes! I know someone who bought five.

I think Joan was noticing that, contrary to the table she mentioned, linens are listed among the items that aren’t being accepted. I was surprised to see music barred, too; I’ve always enjoyed browsing the CDs and records. Maybe they want to discourage that kind of lingering this year? Or maybe the leftovers got too hard to redistribute?

This is the biggest problem with these kinds of sales ... what to do with the leftovers after the sale is over.  It is often hard to give stuff away and costly to get someone to haul it off.  So I totally understand them being extra selective about what they are taking this year.

I have worked on a local book sale (not in SOMA). No matter what, there are always thousands of books left over, and “rehoming” them can be a Herculean task. Prison programs, school libraries, overseas recipients - the disposal coordination is overwhelming. Same probably goes with linens - there’s not a huge market for second-hand sheets and comforters out of people’s closets, especially in our current climate of being so germ-conscious.

Did anybody check out Turnover last night? The weather was frightful (rain, thunder), but the merchandise was delightful! Next sale is Tuesday night. Worth going, for sure!!

The volunteers who staff the sale are decreasing in numbers and increasing in age. It's become very hard to manage, and there are also certain items that are very difficult to sell. Upholstered furniture is one example, and a lot of antique furniture in general doesn't garner any interest.

This year the hallways can't be used due to the potential for overcrowding, so that also forces a reduction in what can be accepted as donations. The music section was always in one of the hallways.  CDs are also not in high demand anymore.

Books are the declutterers curse. Nobody wants to just throw them out, but lots of them are just worthless. So if you open your doors to accept book donations you're going to be collecting a lot of paper you then have to dispose of.

Aside from what I know from talking to the sale coordinators, I also feel like sales like this one suffer somewhat from the increase in free stuff on websites like Freecycle and Facebook Swap.

But yes, there's plenty of stuff to peruse and nice friendly people to help. Plus all of the proceeds go to charitable organizations.

For those of you who are on Instagram, there’s an account called @morrowturnoversale where they’re posting photos of some of the items being offered.
