Maplewood Senior Residence on Irvington Ave?

Thinking about it as a possibility for my dad. Would appreciate comments and experiences.

Hoping to get a better response in Please Help than I got in Senior Issues. Any comments?

It is possible that like me persons reading your post may not know much about the senior residence on Irvington Avenue. They may not even know that it exists. The only thing I have heard about the development is that a significant number of the residents there are Russian speaking. That does not tell you anything about how accessible and well run the building is, what services it may provide to its residents, or what the quality of life is there. These are the factors that would concern me most if I were considering living there. Another factor to consider is the size of the waiting list for an apartment. Two suggestions would be (a) to go to the building and see for yourself, the management may be willing to offer a tour to a prospective tenant or someone living in the building may be willing to offer to show you around; and (b) to check with the appropriate departments in town to see if the facility has any violations or known issues and if so what steps are being taken to address them.

Thank you, Joan. Yes, those are steps I would take to research the place. Still interested in hearing from people in the know one way or another.

I think I've heard Mayor deLuca mention it at one of the senior meetings and have the impression there are likely income restrictions. Perhaps he or Robert Roe could provide you with information.

It is a shame we know so little about this facility.

There are two Senior buildings in South Orange , one with income restrictions and one without. Both run by Jewish Community Housing Corp. My mother is in the one without income restrictions at 110 Vose Avenue. The one for low income Seniors is called Al Gomer Residence at 219 South Orange Avenue.
