Macron delivers!

Here's a few highlights:

Macron's address before Congress made clear that there are certain things he and Trump don't see eye-to-eye on:

  • The Iran deal: Macon said France will stay in the Iran deal — even if it's not perfect."We should not abandon it if we don't have something more substantial instead. That is my position," he told Congress. Meanwhile, Trump railed against the Iran nuclear deal Tuesday, calling the agreement "insane" and "ridiculous" for failing to contain Tehran.
  • Climate change: President Trump pulled the United States out of the historic Paris climate agreement last year. Macron just said he's sure the US will rejoin it one day. "Let us face it. There is no planet B," Macron said.
  • "Fake news": Macron said "we must fight against fake news" — but not the kind Trump talks about. Macron was talking about hoaxes, rumors and other false claims spread on social media, especially stories used to sway political opinion. Trump, on the other hand, uses it to discredit news he doesn't like.

Macron seems wise for his 40 years.Perhaps his wife’s 24 years plus has helped.

he just seems "wise" in comparison to our president.  Most of that is just common sense.

He's a neoliberal friend of the banksters, just like Hillary.

(The folks who post things like that don't seem to hang around MOL any more, so I thought somebody ought to do it.)

I almost wrote something about him being a so-called "centrist."  He's another of those politicians who looked good mainly because his opponent in the election was so horrific.

Impressive speech. It started off sounding as if he was just going to reiterate our friendship and history. He caught me completely off guard with those exact 3 points. It perhaps took Trump by surprise, although with his attention span, he may have missed half of it, so he will have to have Hannity explain it to him.

People who want to fight against "fake news" really need to stop using the phrase "fake news".

Macron's address to congress was strangely at odds to the bromance he appears to have with Trump. What he said about Iran and climate change are not the comments of a great mind, just sensible. He has lots of domestic problems in France, so I'm sure there is an element of distraction involved in some of his recent actions. I like Steve Bell's take on this from the Guardian:
