Luther

I am a big fan of British produced shows and have recently starting watching "Luther," which airs on WLIW Channel 21 in our area.  Luther, with Idris Elba in the starring role, is one of the most psychologically terrifying series that I have ever watched.  (Some may remember Elba as the Stringer Bell character in "The Wire.")  It actually frightens me on a level I've not known in some time.  Elba won two SAG awards, one for "Luther."  Elba plays the role of what would be considered an American homicide detective.  Luther, himself, is no perfect hero.  He skirts the laws and acts out in ways -- sometimes violent -- that pushes the envelope.  But he possesses a savant's gift for reading the tactics of psychopathic murderers.

Love the British series, but have no stomache for terrifying these days. I wonder why dark seems to predominate so much "smart" television and movies?

I thought it was just me who felt like that.  I'm only up for comedy and cooking shows nowadays.

I've been on a Wentworth binge while cleaning and organizing the house. I like it, although it is very close to ripping off Orange is the New Black, unless it was filmed first.

I love Luther.

I watched 2 episodes of Luther. Too much for me. . . put me in the "Feel-Good-TV" group.

Wentworth's first episode broadcast  preceded OItNB's by a couple of months. Both rely heavily on stereotypical women but  I think the writing for Wentworth is much better.
