Looking into page loading issues

I've noticed that page loads have been slow lately - our servers guys are looking into the issue.  A quick glance - (not to make this political) - but I do notice our firewall is blocking a lot of IP addresses from . . . Russia

It's been that way for a while, to the point that I stop and wonder if it's worth it to open a thread for just one new post.

It seems they're all subscribed to Paul and nan's posts to get ideas for planting on other social media platforms.

 I wouldn’t wish that even on the Russians.

Pages are loading painfully slow. 

I thought the problem was slowin’, not Russian.

ok - think I found an issue that was clogging things up.

it’s seemed, over the past couple of weeks, to vary on certain days and certain times of times of day (often when I’d expect less traffic in your actual neighbourhood). From memory, Fridays, my breakfast to mid-mornings were fairly slow. 

Jamie, did you check for those kinds of patterns?

This time - I mainly focused on processes that were hanging in database queries and found a few that were taking way too long to execute.   So far - it seems to be a bit better.
