'Local' NFL teams (and their QB 'busts')

Dec 16, 2025 at 10:13am

When you see how well Daniel Jones & Sam Darnold can perform with a decent/quality team and a functional offensive line, it is obvious that both the Giants & Jets have been comical (in a tragic manner of speaking) organizations for a long time.

The Jets managed to destroy a 2nd first round QB in Zach Wilson.  He has not had a chance to run another team yet (electing to back up for a year or two), but it speaks volumes about the team and their coaching.  Zach ought to sue the Jets for sheer incompetence.

I can't get myself to root for the Eagles or Patriots, and Buffalo is just too far away.  What is left???

Green Bay?  Far away, but there's sure to be Packers bars nearby most anywhere.  And they will need all the help they can get going forward without Micah Parsons.

C’mon, mjc — full disclosure! 😉

OK, you're right, i'm now living in Wisconsin.  But really, national, even international team??  They certainly aren't getting by on the population of GB, or even Wis.

If I weren’t a lifelong Eagles fan, I’d probably root on a game-by-game basis. The underdog. The team with a star or stars from my college alma mater. The team that isn’t Dallas. Or resign myself to watching without a favorite and just hoping for an exciting display of injury-free football.

I had season tickets to the Jets for one year (mid 1980's, Ken O'Brien was the QB), and learned how cold it gets in Nov & Dec, not to mention how expensive their bad beer is.  Switched to the Giants, who had a great deal of success for a long time, while watching the Jets from afar.

Since Giants 'retired' (fired?) Tom Coughlin, it has been steadily downhill.  I do not understand how they have become so consistently inept.

I'll bash the Jets organization as much as anyone but Wilson was not a good pick. Was not gonna be a franchise QB anywhere.

The Giants did not manage the Daniel Jones era well. He never should have been given a new contract.

That said, his stats at Indy this season are in line with his best years with the Giants and Indy is finding out how injury prone he is.

The Jets looked like a high school team today.

I currently like the team with a star (Drake Maye) from my college alma mater better than my alma mater’s team.

I watched the Philly Buffalo game last night.  One of the best games I've seen in a while.

Football was meant to be played in the elements. Like golf. (All hail the Open.)

The Birds were very fortunate that McDermott went for two and that Allen misfired.

Giants got Harbaugh!

After 11 years with long shot coaches, they finally went all the way.  I hope that he gets some input on the draft; then we might actually get meaningful games within 2-3 years.

Well, he was only a Jets head coach for less than 15 minutes, but I am posting this under the local NFL teams thread anyway.

Bill Belichik did not make it into the HOF on the first try.  He is obviously deserving, but he managed to 'annoy' (read P... O..) enough people throughout his long career, that he couldn't get 40 out of 50 votes.

Aside from that, the current voting process is absurd.

Speaking of local QB "busts."

Sam Darnold, former Jets QB, is going to the Super Bowl!  There is life after the Jets.

Jets had high draft picks most years, Pats had years of low picks because of their success.  Pats in SB, Jets in toilet bowl as always.

Sam was a class act and I'm rooting for him.

And Minnesota is kicking themselves for not offering him a contract

It’ll be interesting to see the reaction in these parts if the Titans’ new head coach and OC achieve a big turnaround together.

Geno Smith is back with the Jets (again), and their starting quarterback for the 2026 season.

I will rate this:  'I guess it is the best they could do', but I am NOT thrilled.

Geno had a few good seasons with Seattle.  It's not clear how that will translate to the Jets this season.

On 2nd thought, I guess that this speaks volumes about the Jets' drafting AND coaching staff for the past 15+ years.
