Lindsey Vonn Retires as the Winningest Female Skier in History

DottyParker

Never have I been so enthralled by an athlete as I have been by Lindsey Vonn. Believe it or not, I was in tears to learn of her retirement.  I know it doesn't make sense; I can't expect anyone to do this infinitely. But the absolute thrill of watching Vonn flying down impossible banks at breakneck speeds, almost vertical inclines never gets old.  The jumps alone were made in heaven.  It was almost as if I was on the skis myself doing the impossible too.

She has had an incredible career.  I wonder what she will do next?  She is only 34.

She's paid a price - she will be feeling her many injuries for the rest of her life.

Also most successful U.S. skier of all time. Male or female.

Her legs are a mess. I assume she will get knee replacement surgery relatively soon.

Julia Mancuso retired last winter due to a chronic hip injury.  She has already had the hip replaced.

Love her.  I heard she is going into TV/films.

This was Vonn in 2010 at the Olympics in Vancouver where she won the gold in the downhill.  It sends such a charge through me each time I watch it.  (In addition to the breathtaking view.)

Not being a fan of winter sports I know her more from the horrific crashes (SportsCenter) and Tiger Woods. Had no idea she won so many races.
