Linden Animal Shelter has now received enough donations of water for the time being.

Friends of Linden Animal Shelter

Calling all friends of FOLAS:
URGENT:
We're now more than a month without running water, and our supply is starting to run extremely low. As such, we have to call upon you, our supporters, for help once more. We are in desperate need of gallons of water, and any help will be extremely appreciated. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter Mon-Fri between 6 and 7:30 PM, or Saturdays and Sundays between 10 and Noon

Why have they been without running water for this length of time? What is being done/proposed to resolve the underlying problem?

They had a water main break a month ago. This is not the pound which was closed this is run by volunteers FOLAS Friends of Linden Animal Shelter. I'll cut and paste their explanation and also the link to the Mayor's info.

I cut and pasted a post from their page, eliminating some of the discussion.

we are an all volunteer shelter. We get no funding from anyone. We survive on donations and fundraising done by our volunteers. We are a private organization and are not connected with Linden Govt, the same as any business in the town. We are not and never were Linden Animal Control which by the way was closed in Dec 2014 for violations. When Linden Animal Control was first started many years before us, the energy co down the street allowed them to hook into their water main. Years later Friends of Linden Animal Shelter was formed as well as a police shooting range which were also hooked into the energy co's water main. The Friends of Linden Animal Shelter does not have its own account

The water main that is broken is on the property of the energy co. It is not a municipal water main so neither the town nor the water co have to fix it. Presently, the energy co is digging up the street to fix gas lines. The water is not their priority.

This is a shortcut to their Amazon Wish List and water is on it.

I'll get the info on the nearby Shoprite that delivers.

What isn't clear from their website/facebook is whether the company that has been allowing them a free hook-up has any intention of fixing the problem for them, or whether the relationship is being abandoned and they need to be making plans for a permanent water hook-up of their own (or a rehoming of their animals if they can't get their own water).

Leaves me wondering if their real need is for a fundraiser for a big plumbing project.

It's legal to operate an animal shelter without running water

Agree with Susan. While it is necessary to deal with the immediate problem of stockpiling water to avert a crisis in meeting the needs of the animals housed at the shelter, the far greater need is to find a workable long term solution by either obtaining a reliable water source for the existing shelter facility or moving the animals to a location which has one.

What Susan and Joan said!

This is a wonderful group of volunteers who were the source for the beloved dog that we adopted eight years ago. Please help them.

Thanks for the coverage News 12!

Just saw it, more will be covered at 5 PM.

Morganna,

I have just made a donation and will gladly donate more. I assume that they can make a better deal to buy water than I can. Once again, I urge all animal lovers to step up to the plate for this group.

WATER SITUATION UPDATE:
Hey everyone, we have some pretty cool news! News 12 New Jersey heard about what was going on and stopped by the shelter this morning! But that's not all! While they were visiting, they got to see tons of you wonderful people stopping by to drop off donations of water! At a rough count, we're looking at TWO HUNDRED gallons of donated bottled water, stored everywhere we possibly can, for the animals to drink! And don't forget about that big 300-gallon t...ank the Linden DPW is loaning to us for cleaning purposes! This being said, we think we have enough bottled water to be okay for at least a couple of weeks. Hopefully, this should last us until the issue is resolved. We will, of course, continue to keep all of you in the loop with regular updates as we get them. Any monetary donations we have received so far will be used to purchase water for the animals, as that was the intent behind them.
Again, thank you all so much for your incredible generosity! It's much appreciated!
