Don't let "musical" turn you off if you aren't a fan. Other than the big opening number, it is not a "musical" in the recent splashy, polished, big number sense of the word. I think it was more an old Hollywood genre with some music in it to convey some emotions too deep for words. Love story at its core. And I'll just say I was thrilled with this one. Absolutely gorgeous movie in every way. And, no spoilers, but I remain moved to tears a day later...
Agreed, conandrob240. A musical in the sense that there are musical numbers throughout.
I really enjoyed this movie too! The end was the big payoff I thought, plus I was pleasantly surprised to find a couple of songs lingering in my brain the day after - catchy. I'd definitely see it again.
Loved it, and I've been listening to the soundtrack album since I saw the movie. Great score!
I feel it is a real artistic achievement. Breathing life into a form of which I've grown weary. Great ending, especially for 2016!
Best Regards,
Ron Carter

Rufus Meaning you liked Manchester By the Sea?
Extremely well made movie, acting, cinematography, story, direction, etc. But, note that it is constantly depressing.
