Job change - porting work cell phone number to new employer

Has anyone done this?  

Do I go to my current employer to request this or the new employer or maybe the service carrier?

Both employers will need to cooperate. The old employer needs to leave service on until the number is ported. The actual request usually starts with the new service. If either party doesn't want to do it then it won't happen. It's not all that complicated if you're doing it yourself, but you probably won't be so expect fun hassles!

I can think of few situations when it is in the current employer's interests to help you do this, so before you ask, make sure you think about why your current employer would want to say yes.

Current employer is fine with the port. Susan1014, what reasons are those? I did say it would be easier if I have the same number if I come back at some point. Others?
