Jets Trade Darnold to Panthers

Now the Jets can draft the next franchise QB.  Which is what I thought Darnold was supposed to be?  Somehow I think the problem is not going to be solved even by a number 2 pick.

They should have done the trade the Dolphins did with the 49ers. They have so many holes that it's hard to know if the QB is any good. Darnold never had a line, WRs, RBs, or decent coaches.

There's no hype like NFL draft hype.  Lots of can't miss guys who miss.  I don't know what Darnold's real ceiling is or what his unfixable flaws are but he had the worst supporting cast, especially on the O line, in football his entire short career.  Under pressure all the time and no receivers or backs that really scared anyone on the other side of the ball.  I see all the smart money guys talking about the BYU kid's skills but I still have to note that he played against B league competition.  Was he ever really under pressure?  How many quality defensive backs did his receivers ever play against?

The Jets are where QBs go to die.  They ruin everyone.

Zach Wilson’s college opponents were comparable to Josh Allen’s. So much depends, as you say, on the NFL supporting cast, coaching included.

When did the game change so drastically?  Young QBs used to ride the bench for a year behind a veteran.  Now kids are thrown on the field by bad teams and crushed.  Only a few survive.  To get a good pick you have to be a bad team, and without a strong line and good receivers the QB is just going to be hung out to dry.

Huge Jets fan and I didn't miss many plays during Sam's tenure. Having said that, I don't remember too many (any?) drives or throws that stood out and made me say, "THAT is why we sucked for Sam!". And, look, I like Sam. Good kid, etc., with lots of issues outside of his control to deal with. I think sometimes the cards just read. No. 2 pick, makes sense financially, and a fresh start might be best for everyone.

Let's move on.
