ISO: Horizontal Light Switch Extender

I would like to put a 12" deep bookshelf on the wall in my mudroom. The problem is that it will be in front of the light switch to my basement. (It is a simple toggle switch.) I am happy to keep the book shelf empty in front of the switch but not happy about reaching in a foot to find it.

Does anyone know of a light switch "extender" that goes horizontally?

You can put a "Wiremold" shallow box on the side of the shelf. You run a short piece of surface wire raceway from the switchbox, using the appropriate adapters. This way you can use the shelf space.Any electrician or decent handyman can do this for you. See the link below for more info.

@wharfrat, Great solution!

You can replace the switch with an RF switch then add a battery operated wireless RF companion switch that can surface mount on to any wall.

@shadeaux, Even better!

So cool... also it would not require the bookcase to "stay put" if I decide it should go elsewhere.
