Hurricane Katrina Storm Surge

This video of a storm surge event from Hurricane Katrina was taken at a motel in Gulfport, Mississippi. It illustrates the speed with which these powerful storms can push enormous amounts of water inland within seconds/minutes. The storm surges were the greatest cause of loss of life during Katrina.  Circumstances can become quickly dire without any chance of rescue.

After a tree fell on my house during Sandy, I have a real dread of hurricanes. I do so much tree maintenance and the often necessary removal but a huge tree far from my house split and blew towards my home and knocked down the entire chimney, crashed on top of the roof and speared through a leaded glass window. I was awake and heard the crash. It took months to rebuild.
