Has anyone used Achieve Tutors for Math or Spanish?

How does the Achieve tutoring work? Some students are giving me quotes for tutoring as high as teachers who tutor? What is reasonable/allowed? Has this program worked for anyone? thanks.

Tutors assigned through Achieve are free. It is a voluntary position.

Achieve tutors are volunteers, as Suzanne says. I've seen fantastic Achieve tutors and others only so-so. It's certainly worth seeing if a tutor is available (you can't always get one - depends on number of volunteers, their areas of expertise, and the number of students seeking help).

There may be confusion between Achieve tutors and other student tutors referred by teachers. My daughter did the latter and was paid, but much less than a typical teacher rate. (I believe she got to set her own rate, but received some advice/guidance on an appropriate range.)

It is possible to hire CHS students who have been trained as Achieve tutors. We got a list from the director of the Achieve program. We have hired a wonderful young lady to tutor our son in math. He thinks she is terrific, he is getting an A in math (8th grade), and we pay her $20 an hour, way below what we paid a teacher from MMS ($75) and a private ex-math teacher who was tutoring full-time until she got a job ($90). She comes to our home weekly at a time that is convenient to her and us.

My daughter had an Achieve volunteer tutor for math a couple of years ago and he was great.
