Happy International Cats Day!

yep, it's really International Cat Day on August 8 each year since 2002, raising awareness of the health benefits of responsible pet ownership and the plight of feline homelessness (strays and ferals).

Apparently twitter and Facebook are lighting up with memes and hysterical conversations - worth checking out for a minute or 5.

(Edited to add: this thread in memory of Minnie, and her predecessors Houdini and Peanuts)

It does when I click it.  Let me see if I can send it from another source.

I'll check when I'm back from work oh oh

Actually Richard Gere and Julia Roberts both have homes there but I have never been invited to lunch by either.  It is in the Saronic Gulf like my Island of Aegina but you can't get there directly.......either a ferry back to the mainland then to Hydra or a ferry to Poros island and then to Hydra.  More Brits than Americans in the area.  I think that's why most Greeks who speak some English elucidate as if they were Brits.

cheese Ridski, well said!

Author, well posted! (Hope you're Fasting well -if indeed you are. Our ladies chose to enjoy a splendid calamari and king prawn banquet for lunch today, and were looked after royally by the Greek staff at the venue)

My sister and I were raised as Roman Catholics per my mother's' promise to do so in order to marry my father  a Catholic with  the blessing of Holy Mother Church.  My cousins,  all Greek Orthodox and I used to have endless discussions as to which Church split off from the other.  Since youth I have gravitated to the Orthodox Church but consider that I have a foot in both camps, if you will.   I take great comfort in my faith.

we took our first trip abroad in 1984. Not knowing that once bitten by the travel bug we would ever do it again, we picked Greece because my architect-husband wanted to go visit the architecture he studied in college. To please me, we also spent time in Ireland -- odd combo -- but the trip was amazing. We took the ferry in Athens to Hydra. Was the color blue ever bluer?

When my companion accompanied me on my last trip over we had a similar experience.   She was kind of frazzled in crowds , especially the Monastiraki area below the Plaka.  She does not have the language so her agitation was understandable,  Next day we left from the Piraeus to the island of Aegina.  The bluest skies and water greeted us.  Plus we sailed near a sail boat regatta.  It just does not get any better.

Belated happy international cat day.  grin

Lol, a month later.
