Good fabric store in the area? Think trendy but affordable home decor fabrics archived

Is anyone aware of a good fabric store locally? Even if its 30-ish minutes away. NJ area not manhattan (may venture to manhattan fashion area some time but looking for a drive-able place at the moment) ... I found a couple in East Orange on Centre Street but totally not the fabrics I'm looking for.

I was supposed to go to Philly tomorrow and was going to hit up fabric row in South Philly but my plans are getting NEMO-ed!
Halsey Fabrics in Newark on Halsey Street. Near NJPAC. Amazing selection and very nice staff.

Is Terminal Mill Ends in Union too old-fashioned for what you're looking for? I know they have a basement that's full of so many different kinds of fabrics and they have loads of upholstery fabrics on their main floor. I don't think they are particularly trendy, but they are pretty comprehensive. They're only about a 15 minute drive away from Maplewood, if you want to check them out.

Fabricland go south on Route 22 for about 15 minutes, near Wilson Ave exit.

Oh fabulous! Thank you everyone! Keep them coming! I haven't been to any of these. Fabric.com will make a girl go broke....

There was an amazing fabric store in Rahway. Huge, great selections and great prices. I think it is called Fabric Warehouse.

+1 for Terminal Mill Ends

And one block BEFORE Fabricland on Rt 22W (#855) is another upholstery fabric store. Looking up Fabric Collection at 799 Rt.22 W, they have a chain of them (Rt.10W in East Hanover).

Not sure if it qualifies, but there's a Calico Corners in Short Hills.

+1 love this place sometmes they have double width italian silks so you get twice the fabric snd the hand is amazng

I love I've Got a Notion in Upper Montclair. Its a little on the small side but they have a decent amount of fabric.

Edited to add that I just reread your thread title-- they dont have a ton of home decor fabric but I they do have some on their upper level.

Terminal Mill Ends is a family run business and the employees are just so nice. The installer is very talented..nice guy...if they don't have something you are looking for they will find it!

It's online, but check out txtlart.com

Also, I've bought Maharam upholstery fabrics from ebay.

Fabricland when I did my daughter's room, Terminal Mill Ends for almost every other project. Fabricland is MUCH larger but their staff isn't as fabulous. At Terminal Mill Ends they took my son down to the basement and gave him a tour and he got to meet their head upholsterer who is a male. My son was with me and we ended up buying fabric for him (and his sister to do their first sewing project). He struck up a conversation at the counter and next thing you know, he's touring! If you don't see what you have in mind, describe it and they will pull books etc...and never make you feel rushed.

Try this place in Montclair

If you take 78, you can avoid 22 all together.

If you do go down to FabricLand and Fabric Connections on Rt. 22W, on the way back, right opposite Blue Star Shopping Center (Kohl's, ShopRite, TGI Fridays, et al.) there is a small place that opened a few months ago, so I haven't checked it out:

I do not like Terminal Mill. I have walked in & out so many times I have lost count. The sales people seem more interested to talk to each other than work with customers.

My go-to fabric store is Jo-Anns Fabrics. There's a store in Rahway on Rt 27 and another in Shrewsbury on Rt 35. (go to it on way to/from Shore). I will make the trip there for a big project. Shrewsbury has much better selection.

Great upholstery fabrics at Michaelian&Kohlberg at 315 Springfield Ave, Summit..entry way is in the back. 908-522-1004

Rock Paper Scissors has beautiful stuff - it's not a traditional fabric store like Fabricland or Terminal Mill. I find both of those pretty pricey and hard to look through (I only like a small % of their stuff.) Whoever owns RPS has basically sorted it all out for you ahead of time.

I'm working in Red Bank now, and one of the cool things is being 5 minutes away from Jo-Ann's!!

There's a cheap place with gorgeous decorator fabrics right near Corrado's in Clifton -- in that former industrial building between Corrado's and 46. I have also done well buying online, especially Fabric Depot. Great prices if you buy the ends of bolts. (Not crazy about Terminal either.)

There is a small store in Montclair called Rock, Paper, Scissors and they have cool fabric. I thought it was a paper store but I got a closer look and it was fabric.

There's also a new-ish, well-stocked JoAnn's on Rt. 17 at the entrance to the Paramus Park Mall.

I've heard really good things about this place.

Fabricland, yes.

But for the best absolutely best
P & Sons on lower Broadway, they specialize in closeout lots at extremely low prices.

I was a loyal customer of theirs back when I lived in NYC and was a private designer.
The absolute best selection, lowest prices. If you are really nice to the cutters, they might even show you their private 4th floor.
They owners are orthodox, so they close early on Friday and all day Sat. Open Sunday. Well worth the drive.
Happy Sewing!

The Fabric Warehouse in Rahway NJ has amazing upholstery fabric at very discounted prices. But You have have to buy when you see something you like since the good stuff sells out fast. They can get high end designer fabrics and very traditional. They're located near where 22 meets the GSP.

I am certainly no expert but I was looking for black out liner fabric. They had little selection and prices of $8-12 yard at all the places on Rte 22, JoAnn, etc. at the Rahway place, they had about 10 choices $2-5 a yard. I did notice the beautiful upholstery fabric there as well. When I went I also had a coupon for 30% off entire order - I think I got in out of one of those Pennysaver magazines.

sign up for JoAnne's email list and you will get very good coupons. However, they will send you an email almost every day, so make sure you use an email you don't mind getting that much stuff.
