Our condo association used them when we lived in Berkeley. Not worth the hassle in my opinion. The smell is other worldly! They do not discriminate in regards to vegetation. You can wrap and fence off your prize plants as much as you want, they will eat through the fence and the wrapping to get to them. They cant be set for height like a mower. The ground is either a patchy mess or bare when they are done. The one application I think they are good for is hilly and rocky areas with wild growth.
This was the head Billy. Woke up one morning after he jumped a 6 foot gap to get up on to my terrace. He had no fear.
That is hilarious! Wouldn't work for us, because goats eat everything in their path, but it's still fun to contemplate.
Oh, and I read somewhere that goats are born looking for trouble. They are wonderful creatures, but a real handful.
I wouldn't use them as lawn mowers, but supposedly they're a fabulous solution (when properly contained by their handlers) for poison ivy as it doesn't bother them and they love it!

They will certainly eat anything and I cant imagine something bothering their digestive system. The one on my terrace chewed through a plastic paint bucket and ate about 5 lbs of fish tank gravel that was inside it.
Last year I saw on the news they were using them in NYC parks to take care of poison ivy
They do a great job on poison Ivy.

I wonder where the service is actually available, probably not many since it is still in BETA per the Amazon website.
Many open questions outstanding in regards to the goats, like how do they prevent the goats from taking off? And how to they ensure that they mow the grass evenly? Goats will eat poison ivy so this may actually be a good idea for those that have a lot of it on their property. We should see how successful such a service really is!
