Giants fans - what do you think about Odell?

Should he have been ejected?  How big do you think his fine will be?  Do you think he'll get a suspension?

He doesn't seem to learn that his antics cost his team.  It's all about him.  Great player.  Seems like a jerk.

I applaud his competitiveness.  However, he was clearly out of control yesterday.  I can't believe TC didn't sit him for at least a series to cool off.

The helmet to helmet late hit was beyond the pale and is deserving of a suspension IMO.   And I LOVE him as a player.

I wonder if those 45 yards in dopey penalties would have come in handy during that last second field goal?

Kid needs to grow up fast.

What is to be discussed?  He should be suspended.  I think it reasonable for athletes to understand that they need to be role models as well as good athletes.  Star athletes receive extraordinary amounts of money.  A bit of good behavior is not an unreasonable expectation.

I'm not sure I buy the role model thing. But if backs realize they can get under his skin with a couple gentle rib jabs and a yo mamma joke, his production numbers are about to take a serious hit.

Kind of an early 20th Century view, I suppose - this concept that adults should behave well, especially overpaid adults.  All honored more in the breach than in practice, but still a worthy expectation.

Early 20th century athletes were also terrible people, but  back then ESPN didn't have 144 hours to fill before next Sunday.

True enough, but that doesn't invalidate an expectation of good behavior.  Moreover, back in the day, many professional athletes had to work other jobs to make ends meet.  These multi-million dollar contracts are a relatively recent phenomenon.

WFAN was guessing a fine of around 100k.   Of course that's still chump change for him.   A suspension would be more meaningful.  Then he's get the ire of his teammates and the fans.

Beckham was out of control but it seemed the team leadership, whether it be coaches or players, did little to stop him. He played down to the ***** star wide receiver image that so many have carefully cultivated over the years, something he said he would never be. That all said, the announcers barely mentioned Josh Norman's behavior, which was just as out of control. Do defensive backs get a pass? I

What?

What are you talking about ...

I thought that the Giants season was over weeks ago!

Not a Giants or Pats fan, but if the NFL was willing to suspend Brady for 4 games for deflating some footballs.

How is spearing your opponent with the crown of your helmet with a 7 yard running start not deserving of a multi-game suspension.

That video is all you need to see.   He could have done serious damage.  Suspend him.

Yikes. Game wasn't televised here so I only read/heard about that hit. Why in the world was he allowed to finish the game? He would have needed to send a confirmation email to make it more obvious that was intentional.

He's been suspended one game.

A meaningless game ...

Hopefully a watershed moment for him--let's see if he learns from it/how graciously he handles it.  Could be just what he needs.

Huh?

Odell should have been ejected from the game after the helmet to helmet hit.  However, the Panthers defender was after Odell all game.  He body slammed Odell in the first half and nothing happened to him.  I'm not excusing Odell's hit but he's not the only one to blame for how things got out of control.

The umpire crew should also be suspended for letting it get completely out of control.  They missed the ejection and they should have shut down the crap much sooner.

Finally, all the talking heads are going nuts. They're acting like this is the worst hit of all time (Ron Jaworski).  There have been numerous hits by defenders (e.g. Suh) that were worse and only a drew a fine.

It's Odell's first major infraction and that typically only draws a fine.  Everyone is ready to suspend him but the NFL has already set the standard.  If he does get suspended he will have good reason to appeal.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/odell-beckham-s-war-with-josh-norman-leads-to-one-game-suspension-165506048.html

"Beckham and Norman engaged in a nasty battle. Numerous times the two were pushing and shoving or worse after the whistle. Beckham got most of the criticism, although Norman was aggressive throughout the game against Beckham too.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the tone of controntation might have been set when some Panthers, including Norman, carried baseball bats on the field during pregame warm-ups, motioning toward Beckham.

Beckham got three unnecessary roughness penalties and Norman got two. It was an ugly display."

Where in the world was Coughlin? Though the reality is more complicated, the Giants' ownership guards the team's image as a class franchise like the gold at Fort Knox. Their level of tolerance for embarrassing behavior is like my parents in church when I was a kid.

This was more than just another in a long series of incorrect Coughlin decisions this season, but a complete miscalculation of what the franchise stands for from a guy who has been there 14 years as an assistant and head coach.

To have Aikman (a Cowboy!) ripping them for three hours on TV for failing to enforce standards of behavior and professionalism must have killed John Mara. For some teams, maybe it would have been a close call, but these are the Giants. The team's image comes first and ownership would have backed him up 100 percent.

For TC to miss on this one seems to indicate that his problems are not just those of someone on a terrible streak this year.

The kid was wrong for the helmet to helmet, but you need to go back thru the entire game and see what cultivated this mess. There was a video posted that showed a Panthers player pointing a bat at the Giants, while they came on the field. While I can't prove it, the one "point" I saw seemed to be directed at OBJ, since he soon after appeared in the video.

Secondly, the refs allowed too much to happen throughout the game. I was there so maybe saw a bit more of the nonsense than what you saw on TV.  Again, not absolving the helmet to helmet, which I only saw yesterday, since I had left at 35-7, yeah I know not a real fan grin.

As for someone stepping in during the game, this team lacks the Tuck, Strahan type leader, who would step up here, so not sure who on this roster would have been the logical choice.  Coughlan, sure he should have stepped up, but think of the crap he would have heard from the fan base had he sat their star receiver, not exactly a win/win situation.

As Giants fans lets just hope that the message to OBJ has its intended impact, since he is a great talent who needs to get his head screwed on correctly.

PS: I do hate the "dancing", not only from OBJ, but from everyone, it only flames these type of situations.

Some practice squad hump points a bat at the most important piece of your offense not named Eli and he becomes a total liability instead of a threat? Every team in the league just placed an order with Louisville.

Well, here's the video that Louisville can send along with their order so they know how to use them.

Look, I'm not defending Beckham, that was a cheap shot, but you need to look at the entire picture of what went down, including the above link and early game body slam that didn't draw a penalty.

Yeah, I'm a Giants 'homer', so shoot me.  The kid screwed up and he's now paying for it, along with the team and it's fans, but it takes two to tango here and clearly, that is obvious, if you at least want to be objective

the helmet-to-helmet was egregious, and the suspension is deserved.  But the referees let this game get out of hand right from the start.  The body slam of Beckham by Norman took place right in front of an official.  And Beckham even gave himself up, turned to the official with his arms up, and then Norman body slammed him.  I'm not condoning anything that happened after that, but to me the refs gave Beckham and Norman a pretty clear message -- go at it, guys.  By the time they started throwing flags, the incident had boiled over.

I think some discipline is also in order for the officiating crew.  A flag on that first body slam, and who knows how the game might have proceeded?

agree 100%.

Beckham's played 25 games and while he is highly competitive and gives as good as he gets from anyone, something sent him over the top.  I doubt it was the bat, but I bet there was a lot of nasty talk and cheap shots from the Panther team.   Beckham was a target all day.

Norman's been around a while. Good but not great. No chance physically going 1:1 with Beckham all day. I think he knew exactly what he was doing.

who is this side judge #120?  He needs to be disciplined too.  How much more obvious could this foul have been?

Beckham is the most exciting offensive Giants player of my life and the Panther with the bat is a jerk, but this to me seems like someone in the Giants office went culling through video to find some ostensible prior behavior that justified what OBJ did.

I have to hold them to the same standards as my children. Inevitably, when I catch Kid A bothering Kid B, I will hear an impassioned plea from Kid A that if only I were there three days ago when Kid B did something FAR WORSE to Kid A, I wouldn't even bother to object to the relatively puny payback Kid A is delivering. Sorry, Kid A, if you wanted justice for three days ago, you should have come to me three days ago, I can only judge what I see.

If the scrub with the bat was the issue, then he should have been dealt with then and there either by getting the officials to remove him or confronting him.
