Gas leaks?

We have lived in our home for 6 years and never had a problem with the gas. Yesterday I smelled gas in the morning and PSEG came out. The tech found two leaks and the plumber came and fixed them. This morning I got up and there was gas in the basement again.

Is anyone else having trouble with this? Does any one know whether PSEG is doing anything odd with the pressure? After 2,000 days without a leak, three in two days seems odd.

(ETA: I made this post after I called PSEG. Apparently, that is not clear from and the confusion caused some concern and consternation. Apologies.....)

I would call PSE&G agin. Is is possible the smell is left over from yesterdat?

They are on their way but it was definitely clear last night.

It could be coming from the main. Some of the gas pipes coming in from the street are the original ones and eventually start to deteriorate. That's what happened to ours and they had to come in and put in a new pipe for us. Good idea that you called them back.

Open all windows in the basement.

Yes...we had recurring low-level gas smells, often outside as well as in our basement, until they dug up our street and replaced the connection between our (previously replaced) house gas line and the line feeding our street.

Just keep calling until the problem is solved. We were very pleased with the support we got once we called it in as a "smell gas inside" emergency (as opposed to a "smell gas outside" oddity)

It is possible that the process of repairing the two leaks may have shaken something else loose.

Posting a question asking what I should do because I am smelling gas is like posting "I have chest pains, what should I do?"

Nobody posted a question asking what they should do because they were smelling gas.

OK but OP was smelling gas in the morning and posted "Is anyone else having trouble with this? Does any one know whether PSEG is doing anything odd with the pressure?".

Rather than wondering, call PSE&G asap and let them tell you if you have no reason to worry.

The OP was very clear that they had already called PSE&G twice and that the gas company was on the way. They weren't asking if there was reason to worry. They were asking if anyone else was having similar issues, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do on a local message board.

I had already called PSEG and was looking for a pattern while I waited in front of my house for the truck. Sorry if that was unclear.

Sadly there doesn't seem to be any pattern. The tech tightened a bolt, the smell went away and, thus far, the basement has remained gas free. I am a little worried since this is just what happened yesterday. I guess I will sleep with my fingers crossed.

It wasn't unclear...funny thing is I used to be on another message board with a user with the same 1st name who is an abusive bully.

Glad to see your clarification that you had called and exited the house.
