Game of Thrones

CNN had some pretty good pieces:

This is a pretty good recap:

Details to remember for final season:

The Times recap:

After looking at these - I really need to refresh myself a bit more.  But at the same time - there's a lot to resolve in very few remaining episodes.

Overall, it appears that the Snow-Daenerys relationship will be the critical solution to all and they'll be the rulers at the end?

I also cringe a little at the whole "How to ride a dragon" scene.

Very interesting episode on 60 Minutes last night interviewing some cast members, author, etc. Also article in today's NYTimes. Game of Thrones is filmed in Northern Ireland and many tourists are visiting the sites.Good photos.

Disappointing episode , highlighted (lowlighted?) by

Daenerys and Jon's magic carpet (dragon) ride ala Aladdin. A whole new world indeed

Maybe "jumped the shark" will change over to "rode the dragon".

I thought it was good, but kind of hokey; just a meet and greet to get everyone into the same room before the action begins.  I'm curious how Jon Snow is going to break the news to his girlfriend that he is her brother. How do you do that?  Quiet restaurant?  text?

I thought they were aunt/nephew but with this group who can follow?

You could be right, but is that any easier to deal with?

They are aunt/nephew, his real father is her brother.  She might not have as much problem with it as he will - historically her family married among themselves (even brother/sister) to keep the bloodline pure.

Very awkward reveal by Sam, and it didn't look like Jon believed him.  Guess they're planning to develop that further next week?  Hope so!

The reunion between Jon and Arya felt rushed and shallow, and yes, the dragon ride was underwhelming too.  Otherwise, a fair beginning to a season in which they are going to cram way too much stuff into not enough screen time.

episode was a big nuthinburger, gratuitous nudity notwithstanding.

I'm rooting for the dragons. And, oh yes, Daenerys, too. Long live the queen!

Favorite exchange last night:

     "What do dragons eat?'

     "Anything they want."

Agreed. It was such a weird, anti climatic reveal after such a build up. The ride the dragon scene was awful. Daynerys came across as such a raging b*$&= last night, I wanted to slap her. She couldn’t give Sansa a break for a day or two to maybe get to know her a bit before she demanded submission? I don’t think they are going to rule happily ever after. I think she’s going to blow a gasket when she finds out she’s not the rightful heir and her lover is.

Seemed like a throwaway episode to me. What a waste when there’s only a handful left.

I heard this was all over the internet, but I thought I would post it here anyway:

We redrew the N.J. map for ‘Game of Thrones.’ Welcome to New Jerseros.

THAT was a great episode!

Well at least you could see it! The Clegane death match was a bit much.

True!  Especially with how that scene ended.

I’m almost 100 percent sure Jamie and Cersei are alive. No one is dead on that show unless you actually see the corpse and it doesn’t move for 15 minutes.

I like it.  Why do you think it sucks?

I was expecting to be disappointed - the editing alone in last night's episode was epic!

I'm not sure what would happen if Cersei and Jaime survived.  I'm pretty sure they're gone.

I think Jon Snow will change his mind about being king after watching his girlfriend take things a bit too far.   grin

Hadn't seen this thread start and was thinking of starting it but now I'm surprised at how many of you are disappointed. As a fantasy painter I watch the dragons carefully so loved the dragon ride with John and Danny. OK maybe it was a bit Disney romance but hey, a nice break from the fun blood and gore.

I've haven't been a fan of Danny for a long time and even before the long build up to her romance with John, I felt she would let him down in the end. Enough with "bend the knee".

I hated Jamie's return to Cersei, and the tearful pleas from Brianne. I thought there was hope for him. Even imagined him being the executioner.

If that's the end to Cersei, I'm disappointed. I wanted long protracted torture in the manor of her shame perp walk. Perhaps at the hands of Arya and Sansa.

Agree that it all seems rushed now.

they aren’t alive. And what an awful way to ruin a show. We are supposed to believe that someone could turn to pure evil in a few weeks time. A strong woman reduced to an evil shrew. Abd don’t get me started on Brienne crying over Jaime. All they need now is for Arya to want to settle down with Lord bastard what’s his name and they reduced every strong female character to nothing.

LOL, I'm with you. Most depressing final scene for me would be Arya tenderly holding her child while what's his name forged weapons. I was hoping Brienne would turn Jamie into her houseboy.

In the final minutes when people were fleeing the Red Keep, and Arya was going against the crowd, I saw her look at someone and I thought it was him running.

We can still hope that Sansa will rise to the occasion. Maybe pick up a sword or something. Maybe organize a siege against Danny.  If anyone has a right to become an evil shrew it would be Sansa. Wasn't she sitting around doing embroidery or something in series 1.

Thread drift alert, speaking of strong women is anyone watching Gentleman Jack?

Arya is going to kill Dany. We already know she “kills the Queen with green eyes” and since it wasn’t Cersei, it’s pretty much a given it’s Dany. I think Jon will stay north at winterfell or go join his buddies and his wolf in the far north. I also think Sansa will win Game of Thrones (despite really not playing). And maybe even marry Tyrion.

Too bad the Red Witch dissolved, she could have resurrected his lost love, one of my favorite characters. Or maybe he'll reunite with her in the after life, like the final scene in Gladiator. Yes he should definitely finish his life with his wolf ghost, the runt of the litter and now the only survivor.

I don't know about pure evil but this certainly wasn't out of Dany's character. She (and her dragons) burned Mirri Maz Durr on Drogo's funeral pyre, torched the House of the Undying, sent the Unsullied to sack Astapor, crucified the Masters of Meeren and burned Meerenise noblemen, incinerated Vaes Dothrak and loot-burned the Lannisters' wagon train. Not saying she doesn't have reasons, but the wig-out was fairly unsurprising.

And yes on Gentleman Jack, a welcome antidote to the bloodletting on GoT. I may start walking that way.

Killing thousands of innocent people was completely out of character. If she had brutally killed Cersei or any of her group (even those not really guilty), sure. Dany has that evil streak. But never the slaying of thousands of innocent children. That was never the Dany we had for 7 years.

Depends on one's feelings about Dothraki or Astapori villagers, I suppose.

Isn't Arya's Nymeria out there in the wild leading a pack?

So, is Daenerys  going to kill Sansa?   And are all the people who named their kids after Daenerys  going to regret that?

I am very disappointed with this season. Most shows stretch so so story lines a season or two too long. This show absolutely had at least another season  of story to tell. I don’t under stand why they are rushing everything now. The scenes looked beautiful but so many things don’t make sense.

Knight King- all that build up and he never says anything and his whole end scene is just a dagger to the chest. By the way I thought winter was here? Why isn’t it snowing in the south?

Cersei- the witch told her she would be killed by the little brother, and she dies crying in a basement?  All that build up and her army is gone in minutes.  There was more screen time of Cersei complaining about not getting elephants than the army lasted on the field.

The Mountain- The Hound said last season “ you know who’s coming for you, you’ve always known”, well no one came.  Kind of a lame fight scene, he looked like Darth Vader without the mask. I liked Arya and The Hound hanging out, but why travel all that way with her just to tell her to leave at the last minute.

If it was so easy for the dragon to take out all of those ships, why didn’t she do it last week when they were attacking her. I wanted to see Yara come back for a naval battle and take out Euron. At least then there would be a hole in the defense to get the dragon into the city.

Why was there wild fire blowing up everywhere? How could she tell if she was burning her own soldiers, and where did all those Dothraki come from? I can see if a few survived, but it looked like there were as many as before Winterfell.

So many more things, I can’t believe they spent 2 years and this is the story line they came up with. It’s like they had a month to do a book report and they started working on it the Sunday night before it’s due.
