Tonight, tapering off towards midnight
Will at least decrease a little bit between now and then? I was hoping to start clearing with a snow blower around 6pm with the hope I wouldn't just create a mass of flying snow.

Some decrease in a couple of hours from the full howling going on now, but still enough to move the snow around for a few hours tonight

Looking at the satellite and radar, I wonder if there isn't a bit of thundersnow to our west....
Can we throw in some Bombogenesis for good measure? ;-)
Wow. SOMSD called an Official Snow Day tomorrow. No virtual classes.
It just doesn't seem worth it to do much clearing because the wind just fills it back in. We are sweeping/shoveling our front porch and deck periodically in order to be able to get out the doors, but that's about it. (Those spots, especially the front porch, are a bit sheltered, so not refilling quite so fast.)

Haven't heard a single snow blower so I think most people are following that advice. Was thinking of going out this evening to clear some areas as it feels like a lot to do tomorrow.

I'm guessing it's getting moved to Wednesday at this rate.

Not this storm, sorry
Since I'm not going out there to measure until I absolutely have to, this will have to do:
Snowfall reports received as of 4:45 pm Monday. Highest reports received by state so far:
NJ - Chester 24.8"
PA - Springtown 19.7"
NY - Monsey 19.5"
CT - Stamford 12"
MD - Long Meadow 12"
RI - West Greenwich 7.5"
MA - Belchertown 5"

Exactly what I expected — virtual today, while the storm is uglier, then a snow day tomorrow for shoveling out, sledding, etc. Makes sense and leaves one snow day for future problems, I believe.
Anyway, worst of the snow and wind looks like it will let up around 9:00/10:00 tonight, although expect snow showers into tomorrow morning at least

I saw/heard a few snow blowers today. A few hours later, you could not tell they had been out there. Given the wind, due to die down at midnight, Tomorrow seems the best time to get started.

I ran my snowblower around 1 pm and I'm glad I did. My driveway is snug between two houses for the first 50 feet. I have to push the snow ahead and and it built up to 2 feet pretty quick. Still only about 3" build up since then.
I just shoveled, and I don't think my arms will be functional tomorrow.
How much more snow are we expecting?
The measuring stick I set up on the patio last night showed 18 inches at 5pm (Maplewood).
Out here in Western Morris county, we’ve already passed 2ft. The dogs are definitely overwhelmed by this snow.
This map shows 4" - 6" more to come tonight through Wednesday, with the bulk of that tonight and tomorrow.
Just an observation, seems impossible to know how "many inches" because of the crazy winds. Plus, some is lighter, some heavier.
As of this morning, Tues 2/2, the Winter Storm Warning has expired.
Some snow showers are likely today, with a slight chance of freezing drizzle this afternoon. Only another inch or two of accumulation. Winds have abated but should remain in the 15 - 20mph range with gusts to 25 most of the day.
Results of the storm seem to be a widespread 18 - 20 inches in our area.

That's from this link on the NWS site: https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=OKX&product=PNS&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off
18 inches seems about right. I think I've taken 18 Advice since I first started shoveling yesterday.
Thanks max and WxNut for all the updates leading up to and during the storm.
