Fios outage?

Anyone else have an outage?  Internet cable and phone are out.  Just curios if it is me or everyone...

we have fios. i had momentary blip, but we're good right now.

Everything is fine here.  Could be that the cable line to your house got disconnected in the storm.  Do you have a safe way of checking?

We still have Fios internet and cable service.  Jefferson Ave and Ridgewood area.

My wifi has been in and out today but cable is fine

yeah all my neighbors are fine.  Must just be my line...  Wah wah wah

oh wait, now we may be having issues :-( The cable is all scrambled

did you try powering it off...waiting a minute and turning it back on?

Yep. Husband had to wade outside to adjust the wire, which had blown off-kilter. All good now!!

I keep reading this thread title as "FIOS Outrage."

FIOS outrage -- I totally hate  the TV part.  The internet is fast and great, but cannot stand the cable boxes, the slow response to remote, the horrible remote, the absolutely unusable channel guide, that you cannot modify.  the inability to watch live on my iPad.  ugh   And more than Cablevision ever was, the times that the TV picutre goes wonkly and I have to call the horrific customer support.

I can watch FIOS on my ipad. What's the issue?

^^^ Yes!  There is an app for that.

You can always use a TiVO via a cable card. TiVOs generally are more responsive than the standard cable boxes (it helps to have the newest/best ones in that regard, they're never super-fast). They're not as good as I want them to be, but it's hard to not be better than the regular cable box.

It's funny, I sometimes grumble about our channel guide... but then I went to my in-laws' house over the holidays and tried to use their Time Warner guide. It is INEXPLICABLE. The channel line-up itself makes no sense and the guide is absurd.

Nope, can't watch live Fios shows on my iPad - it's a very limited selection.  Or on my laptop.

An example  used to like taking the iPad or laptop into the backyard while enjoying a glass of wine before dinner, or take it into the kitchen to watch news while making dinner.  Just not possible with Fios.

@peteglider -- Isn't there a FIOS app to enable you to do that?

I just checked the FiOS app on my phone. Looks like most of the channels below the 100s are blocked from watching live on the phone. Most of the channels above 100 are available to watch live on the phone.

I second the TiVo recommendation. The FiOS DVR is painfully inferior, IMO. Add a TiVo Stream (or get one of the newer TiVos with Stream built in) and you can have your streaming back.

Quite a few of the stations below 100 have HD equivalents in the 500 range.  For example 02/502, 07/507, 13/513, etc. I am not aware of 024 having such an equivalent but township broadcasts can be watched live on the township website.

Yes, those are the HD equivalents of the lower numbered channels, and they are not available for streaming to the phone or tablet, either.

In a nutshell, it seems that you cannot stream basic broadcast channels to your device using the FiOS app. Most of the cable-only channels appear to be allowed.

From the VZ website:

Why can’t I watch all my FiOS channels on my mobile or tablet device?

Not all of your FiOS channels are available for live viewing from the FiOS Mobile application. As always, Verizon is working on improving your TV watching experience, and will continue to add new channels, both in and out of home, as this application develops over time. So rest assured that if you are looking for additional channels, we are adding them soon!

I'm pretty sure I've been able to watch Fox and CBS on my ipad before. I've sat outside and watched football games on Sundays on my ipad for sure.

Each of the major broadcast networks have their own app. If we want to watch an ABC show, we'll use the app, but it's not necessarily live, that's true.

For sports the Watch ESPN app is great.

I'm pretty sure when I first downloaded the app that I was able to do the same, but it's been so long now I that I can't say for sure. Haven't used the FiOS app in ages due to the aforementioned TiVo Stream setup.

If you're not able to, I imagine it's more because of the broadcast network restrictions than it is because of Fios. They have tightened things up... for example, you used to be able to get On Demand content from the networks for free, now you have to log in with a cable subscriber ID.

I'd bet money on it.

Yeah, the FiOS app only allows for the channels that they're allowed to stream. I don't watch a ton of TV live, but I'm a soccer fan (Red Bulls, Chelsea, USA) and all of the sports channels have their own app and the channels are excluded from the FiOS app.

Depending on what match I'm looking for I'd have to use either WatchESPN, NBC Sports Live Extra or Fox Sports Go. MSG has an app, but currently only works if you're an Optimum or Comcast subscriber - for a while it was only Comcast, maybe FiOS will get added soon, although I do have a relative's Optimum login I can use in a pinch. I generally watch the games live on a normal TV anyway, so I mostly only use these if I'm travelling.

Considering the FCC and a federal appeals court essentially had to force MSG to give HD access to FiOS, I wouldn't hold my breath for them to add FiOS to their app.

Or try Comcast's idiot guide that is more wrong than right.  They made it impossible to record the special Godfather compilation on HBO -- a 7 hour 5 minute movie that you cannot record -- they only allow you to record it for 1 hour and 55 minutes.  A one hour telephone conversation with their customer service (and I use that term loosely) was useless.

If anyone is curious, it was just my fios that was out.  Apparently the power to the outside box came loose in the storm.  He pushed it in and everything came back on.  Really wish I hadn't waited three days to figure that out.  Didn't realize the outside box had it's own power supply...
