Fios, or the TV ?

TV crashes about once or twice a week. Then goes into reboot.

I know the vast majority of MOL'ers prefer Fios.....but I have had Comcast for 8 to 10 years with no problem.

The question is to identify the likely cause of the problem. I.E., do any other Fios customers experience this?

What kind of TV please?

If the TV itself is crashing it's not Fios. If it's a Smart TV it might need a firmware update.

If the STB (Set Top Box which is probably under your set) is crashing and rebooting it's bad and should oughta be replaced.

Sony.  Its crashing while watching DVD's. So I doubt it is the setbox.  Actually, that probably answers the question.

How do I update the firmware?

How do I update the firmware?

If it’s a smart tv with WiFi it can probably be done directly. Otherwise download the firmware onto a flash drive (from a computer).  Look up info online at Sony support site

It won't download because there is no cable connection. The signal goes from the cable on the wifi to the back of the tv.

I am not sure there is an input for a flash drive.

does the tv have apps built in that you might use for Netflix, Amazon TV, YouTube etc?  If so it’s on WiFi and it’s a “smart” tv. In that case there’s likely an update function somewhere in settings.

Looking at the manual will give you a hint, too.  About how old is it?

Yes, there is an update function. I clicked it but the screen says it won't download because it is not connected to cable.

The television is about five years old

Five years old might have wifi or Ethernet connectivity.

Ethernet is the one that looks like a fatter modular telephone connection.

(Modular telephone connection is the one we had to switch to in the 80s. (Telephone is the thing you can use to talk over long distances to anyone over the age of 50)).

Can you please describe what cables exactly go into the back of your TV? Is there a coaxial cable (round that screws in) or HDMI (kinda flat and rectangular that just slides in)? Where do they come from?

Is your TV close to your Fios router? (Black box that your Wi-Fi emanates from, but also has Ethernet connections in the back)

Do you have an Ethernet cable long enough to reach from the router to the TV?

If you know how to post pictures here*, it might help us to help you.

*Yes this is a joke I obviously know that formerlyjerseyjack knows how to post photographs to MOL
