FIOS

TV keeps breaking up, then it stops, then it searches for a signal, then the STB turns off. Then you have to push  menu on the remote and wait while it down loads something until you can get the TV to turn on again. Is this just me or are others having similar issues?

Not having this problem at the moment, but have had in the past.  Sometimes rebooting the router works.  Otherwise, may be necessary to ask Verizon to replace the STB, especially if it is an older model.

Just call and tell them the problem. You might have a loose fitting or something. If they can’t resolve it on their end they will mail you a new stb in a box for return of the old one.

Yeah this sounds like the STB is starting to fail. It's rebooting which requires a download of the guide each time.

When I went through this I was able to bring my busted one to a local place in West Orange and they gave me a new STB. Setup was pretty easy... don't assume you need a tech for this.

Mine went but I insisted on a tech doing in case that did not fix the problem.  I said I pay for the service, and if their over the phone diagnosis is wrong then I would be back to square one.  They said no problem and sent a person the next day (which was a saturday).

Fair enough. I will say I spent a day waiting for a Fios tech once, and Saturday is not always an option to wait for.

Replacing the STB involved removing the coaxial cable from the old one and putting it in the new one, then plugging in the new one and connecting it to the TV with the same HDMI cable. Three connections total, none of which are interchangeable. Then I think I had to call a toll-free number to complete the setup.

I know not everyone is comfortable doing this sort of thing, but it's an option.
