Economically successful oil to nat gas conversion

All - I wanted to share my recent experience with replacing our oil boiler with a natty gas one. Moved in Apr 2013. Over winter 2013-2014, our bill averaged about 1500 bucks a month. Boiler was 10 years old. Converted to natty gas boiler at all-in cost of 9K. Also included in that an automatic water feeder to avoid the random winter shut off and removal of tank from basement. During summer 2014 insulated all steam pipes in basement at total cost of 450.

Just received our first meter reading since April 2014. Total gas bill for winter was roughly 80% lower, for a savings of near 4K. Not sure how 2013-2014 winter compares to 2014-2015 in terms of heating degree days, but my hunch is relatively close.

Also worth noting that at the time of the conversion the state of NJ was offering a modest rebate for the conversion. Believe it was 300 bucks. Not sure if it is still available.

Ours was done for about $6,800. Granted it was out of necessity since we had a cracked boiler.
