Early Planning- Super Bowl 51 tickets

when and how do I go about buying? Dad and husband think they want to go next year. Have no idea how, when or where to buy.  Also- cost? Are we talking $500 or more like $5000? TIA

5k, each.

That get you in the nosebleed sections.

Super Bowl 50 tickets were reselling for average of $4,639 just before kickoff, according to one source, and an unsourced anecdote had a Phoenix man buying two at $27,983 each.

According to an article in USA Today, 1,000 tickets, priced at $500 each, are made available to the public through a lottery. "The rest flow from the league and its teams, with a big chunk of them later ending up in the resale market, where prices are guided by supply and demand."

Get a job at Pepsi.

It looks like there's a process to get your name in a lottery.

Looks like face value of tickets is in the 3K range and up.

For that much money they could pay for therapy to figure out why they would want to spend that much money to watch grown men brutally pummel each other to move a dead pig 100 yards.

Your best bet is the secondary ticket market but be prepared to spend.  Most tickets face values are over $1,000.  Yes there is a small lottery for tickets but odds are probably as good as winning the real lottery.  Good news is there are always tickets available and it all depends on the teams playing as to what the open market price will actually be.  If you really want to go look for lodging and airfare and find good deals on those first.

$1000 would be considered. $5000 no way. I wonder how much Peyton's last game had to do with the $5000 prices? Or do you think that's typical? Thanks for lottery info. Can't hurt to try.

Quite typical.  $1,000 is out of the question, and that doesn't include flights, hotels, meals, etc., all of which will need to be booked in advance as well.  And god forbid two well-drawing major-market teams get in.  Then you can forget the $5k/per and head towards $10k for a decent seat, for starters.  Meh.

I understood air/hotel/food was extra and was asking about ticket price only. So, you can't buy tickets until you know who is playing?!? They don't sell long before that?

There is almost zero chance of getting advance tickets for the game.  You send a letter to the NFL now for the lottery, but forget those chances.  The allocations for the teams aren't determined until they know whose playing (and there are the season-ticket holder lotteries for those teams).  Remaining teams get an allocation, then about a quarter to sponsors, networks, etc. etc.  So basically there isn't a huge population to draw from until weeks before the game.  This isn't like concert tickets.

Face value for this year's Super Bowl was $850 - $1,800.  Those are virtually impossible to get.  If you are season ticket holder from one of the two teams or a VIP with one of the sponsors you may have a chance.  Otherwise, you are on the secondary market.

Average ticket on the secondary market this year sold for $4,639.

"The NFL also made 1,000 seats available for $500 each through a fan lottery."

holy cow! This is all great info. It seems they'll have to leave this one out of their quest to attend the " big game" in every sport. Yikes!
