Do you use nomorobo for your cell phone?

Has anyone noticed an uptick of spam to your cell phone?  I've only had to use it for my landline - but will look into using it for my cell as well.

I thought that wasn't possible and/or one had to pay.

yeah - I wasn't sure - I'm not seeing it as an option under my mobile devices.

Its free for landlines and VOIP like Vonage. I think you have to pay for it on cellular lines.

Authenticated caller id is supposed to resolve spoof call issues. It was supposed to start end of 2019. I haven't seen it yet.

I almost never answer my phone without knowing who's calling anymore, cell or home.

When I am calling someone who I think doesn't have my cell number in their phone, I text them first with my name and why I'm calling. Obviously only works with cell phones. It's my own authentication method.

I use Embware's blocker for my android cell (it's free with ads).  It has black and white listing for phone numbers.  I used the white list feature that connects with my contact list.  Anyone not in my contact list goes goes directly to voice mail with no ring(it does vibrate to alert you that a call came in).

Look like you can get nomorobo for iphone - it's $19.99/year.

I use it for my FIOS land line.  It blocks at least 10 calls per day, and it's free for land lines.  I haven't implemented it for my cell phone.  I don't get a lot of robo calls on it, and Nomorobo charges for cell phones.

My wife and kids have iphones.  A while back I sent them info on call blocking for their phones.

An alternative: Whitelisting

If you only want to get notifications on your phone from people you know, consider having Do Not Disturb enabled as an extreme form of whitelisting.

Within the Settings app, select Do Not Disturb, then navigate down to Allow Calls From. Tap this and select All Contacts, or the group you wish to call you. This will automatically suppress notifications from unknown numbers while Do Not Disturb is active. .

There is an option to allow Repeated Calls to come through. As this will permit a second call from an unknown number to automatically pass through if it occurs within three minutes of the previous call, this could be left on if spam or telemarketing callers that try to contact you have a longer gap between contact attempts.

Note that this method may interfere with other notifications you may want to see on your iPhone or iPad.

Another alternative is to make a silent ringtone, and use that for the default tone on your iPhone. At the same time, you give a custom non-silent tone to those that you want to hear your phone ring for. This doesn't block the calls, but your iPhone won't disturb you when you get the nuisance calls, at least.
