Do you allow notifications for websites on your desktop browser?

I get the concept of notifications more so for apps - but if you accepted notifications from every site that asks you - wouldn't your browser get a bit overwhelmed with pop up message all the time?

At some point we will have an option to do this - I wouldn't put it in as a pop up request for it - you would be able to opt in if you wish on your notification screen.  The main reason we'll have it will be for mobile notifications - you'll be able to handle any WorldWebs community as a progressive web app.  (at least we'll be testing this concept out in the near future.)

As a rule I avoid all notifications - for the reason you state. It would just be overwhelming. I might consider it for MOL though.

For the most part, I do not allow desktop notifications. Currently, only CNN is permitted to provide me with "breaking news" pop-ups and even that is annoying sometimes.

I bet it is, considering that CNN thinks every damn thing that happens is "breaking news".

I use a pop-up blocker.  MOL notifications I have signed up for go to my email account.

Pop-up blocker is usually to block pop-up windows. Browser notifications are something that you need to give a website permission to receive.  When you do get them - you'll get a little notification directly on your browser window.  Not sure if they show on your home screen or not like this one (I guess I should subscribe to 1):

Never.  I actually turned off the ability for web sites to request these.

I say do it. People don't have to opt in, but some will.

I opt in for news alerts from trusted outlets, and opt out for social media platforms.

It might be useful for MOL users to be able to opt in for alerts for discussions in which they participate, but I have no idea whether that's possible.

Can you share how you did this? I'll start rummaging in the settings on Chrome in the meantime.

I don't want notifications from websites. Maybe I'll miss something I regret like a great price on flights to Orlando. But there are already plenty of people and things clamoring for my attention.

I go through the Notifications settings every time there's an update, and turn off just about everything. I'm grateful we still have this ability!

I get very confused with the different alarms and noises, reminders etc that the various devices can use to grab my attention especially when I'm in the middle of doing an important task that doesn't involve them. I basically just need my phone to be a phone, my iPads to be portable library/basic SF comm device that reads my mind, and everything to be quiet until I need them cheese

I know other people need notifications for different things: D wants to know when certain messages come in, or game updates, emails etc. The noise never stops!

I did it for the first time last week for a site LIVEKINDLY  I'm cool with it.
