DIY Backsplash for bathroom sink

Over the years, the paint behind the faucets has worn away due to cleaning the sink and countertop. I don't have the original paint anymore and even if I did, it would probably wear away again. Any ideas for an easy DIY fix - perhaps a self-adhesive trim?

Home Depot has those adhesive metal-looking panels you can cut and stick to the wall. They come in a copper shade that might work with your faucets. I used the brushed silver ones behind the utility sink in our basement, and I've been happy with them. They've been in place for 6 years with no problems. The panels cut easily with household shears. You might want to panel more than just behind the sink, for aesthetic reasons, but that's your call.

@cody - would you mind posting a pic of your utility sink in your basement? Do you recall which part of HD has these panels?

@red_barchetta - Ok the major issue I can think of with tile is cutting tile if needed.

@sevzas Will get a shot for you later today. If I recall, the panels are in the area near the flooring materials, off the wide aisle that runs parallell to the front of the store. (Not the aisle closer to the front doors, the middle one)

I've seen self-stick PVC sheets at HD that are patterned like ceramic tile and tin ceiling tile:

They're against the back wall in about the middle of the store, in the vicinity of doormats and interlocking foam flooring.

@sevzas Here you go. The close-up view in the link from j_r is close to the pattern that I used here.

@Cody @j_r thanks for the great ideas. I'll try to get to HD to check these out.

That looks great, alibaba has a lot of cool designs too.

Those panels work if you have a logical spot for them to stop, otherwise, like tile you could end up covering the whole wall in order to not make it look funky. But you might be able to come up with an even easier fix by just installing a small piece of molding/quarter round along the area where the vanity meets the wall. Some caulk and a few coats of bathroom paint and you're all set.

Mrs sevzas and wasn't a big fan of the look of @cody 's backsplash so I went with an alternative self-stick tile from Home Depot that is a special order - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Aspect-Square-Matted-4-in-x-12-in-Metal-Decorative-Tile-Backsplash-in-Brushed-Champagne-1-sq-ft-A94-51/203601369 . I'll post a pic once it's installed.

No worries! I like mine because I have my grandmother's old tin washboard hanging on an adjacent wall, so it all ties together. The ones you picked are very attractive! Looking forward to seeing your picture! grin

It's done. For about $16 you get all of those tiles at Home Depot with a special order.

Looks nice - congrats!
