cost of exterior house paint job.

I know the subject of house painting comes up here from time time, with focus usually being recommendations of contractors.  I'm just trying to get a sense of what a full exterior paint job - including full scrape off of the old paint - costs these days.  No need to name contractors though feel free to.  Re size, the house is a pretty standard pre-war Dutch colonial.

Maybe 8-15k.  Depending on complexity and number of coats.

I got a quote of 12.5 right in the middle of that range from a recommended contractor.  It seemed high but my sense of the price of things tends to be dated.

Definitely get more than one price. There might be a difference of a few thousand.

I know that this is beyond the scope of your question, but with each estimate I would ask for proof of insurance.   Ladders are dangerous, and there are a lot of small time contractors out there who cheat, because painting is relatively easy and is mostly a lowest bid industry.

$10-$15k

We live in the smallest house in our neighborhood. It’s a stucco house, so there’s not a lot of sanding of wood involved.  The two estimates I’ve received are in this range.  I’m seriously tempted to paint the place myself.

It is my understanding that the biggest cost factor is whether or not you strip the old paint and go all the way back to bare wood. $10-15k assumes that. If you just sand the existing paint and then paint over it it is much faster and cheaper.

We had our house and garage painted on Plymouth Ave for  $ 9500
