Can I use a Penn Station monthly pass to go to Hoboken?

Does anyone know if I can use an NJ Transit monthly pass (purchased for South Orange to NY Penn Station), to go to Hoboken? I couldn't figure this out on the NJT site. Thanks for any intel. Enjoy your Labor Day.

Officially, by staying on the Hoboken-bound train instead of switching to a New York-bound train at Newark Broad, you’d owe the conductor a $3 or $4 fee — I believe.

Unofficially, a conductor has never asked me for the fee during the handful of times I’ve gone to Hoboken on my New York monthly pass.

Yes.  Definitely permitted.  No charge whether you switch at Broad or not.

Ah, this must be what I was thinking of. Appears to apply to Hoboken passes used for New York Penn, but not to New York Penn passes used for Hoboken.

Changing Your Terminal A flat fee of $3.00 will be charged on-board trains when you present a ticket/pass printed with Hoboken Terminal for travel to/from New York or points in New Jersey ($4.25 from Hackettstown through Morris Plains stations, and from Basking Ridge through Gladstsone stations).

Tickets are good within the zone and Hoboken is within the NY-SO zone. Hob-SO is four zones, NYP-SO is five zones.

SO to NYP is the more expensive ticket.  Therefore, there should be no additional charge to use such a ticket to go to/from Hoboken. (See zone explanation posted above.)

NJ Transit has zones?

Yes it has zones.

Currently using my monthly to go to Hoboken (missed the train to Penn). No surcharge.

Yes. They also determine how far you can ride on a bus since you can use it there as well.
