Butch Trucks, Drummer in the Allman Brothers Band, Dies at 69

At this news I was reminded of how much the music of The Allman Brothers breaks my heart.

was talking about this with a friend yesterday: we're at the age where not only are a lot of our parents' friends, older relatives and yes parents now going, so too are our most-familiar 'hero figures': the performers are artists who filled our social and cultural lives, the hosts who owned the places we hung out (no longer just retired, now also shuffling off mortal coils), the kids from school a year or two ahead, the slightly older cousins... And some of us are even, for one reason or another, 'allowed' to feel we've had an OK innings, reaching retirement thinking....

Heavens.

It's all too soon. I need another 40 years at least!

It's been reported that Butch shot himself in the head in his condo in West Palm Beach. How sad. LOL
