Booster shots

Hi,

Where can I go for a booster shot?  Is Sears still an Essex Cty. site?  doing walk-ins?

If not where?

Thanks

Sears is closed - Kmart West Orange or Market Street in Nerwark

4th shots have not been authorized yet.  If/when they are made available, dates and locations should be widely advertised.

Completely false information. You can get a second booster at Walgreens. Go to the website and they walk you through. If you feel you meet the criteria you can get the shot. Joan, based on your age, you’d likely meet the criteria.

Thanks so much for your time and info.

Since Walgreen has a local store I’ll give them a call and quick follow-up visit, if necesary.

Online you can see which Walgreen stores have availability. I know the website indicates Bloomfield does. You can also check CVS and Acme’s websites (though Acme may just have Pfizer).

The 2nd booster has been authorized for quite some time for  persons with an autoimmune deficiency condition, not for the age 50+ group as a whole.  Pfizer just applied for emergency authorization for a blanket authorization for this entire age group.

I had my fourth shot. I was not asked if I had an immune condition. The only eligibility question asked was has it been six months since my last shot.

This is current as of February 8th, but maybe there's more recent info on the NJ COVID site .

Joan - you just wrote “4th shots have not been authorized yet” this morning??

If you got your booster back in September/August you should speak to your doctor for advice (not Joan Crystal).

4th shots are authorized for limited people...moderately to severe immune compromised...i don't remember any other details, may be more people..

but frankly, unless you really are high risk, it is better to wait until a major wave is imminent...after i got my 3rd shot, by the time we were in the worst of the next wave, it was wearing off according to research.

there is a theory we will be seeing a significant issue in about a month....so really watch how it goes during the next 2 weeks.  right now there are minimal spikes

Not sure why a month, if its really going to happen.  The Omicron1 peak hit us within 2 weeks of the peak in the UK.  We've been talking about a European uptick (which has been rather up and down and nothing like Omicron) for at least a couple of weeks now yet the numbers, at least in NJ, are still good.

I do agree about the personal choice re the timing of a booster.  If there's a lull, it makes sense to wait.

i have no idea why they say late april.....that is their research and projection.....i heard that about 2 weeks ago....to me its better to get a booster as a wave builds and let it start building effectiveness rather than get it long ahead of time and have it weakening when the wave hits

https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/26/health/covid-19-second-booster-shot/index.html

(CNN) The Biden administration is expected to give older adults the option of getting a second Covid-19 vaccine booster as early as next week.

Two sources familiar with the government's plans said the US Food and Drug Administration is planning authorize a fourth dose of the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines for adults over age 50 next week. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to follow soon after with what's known as a permissive recommendation, which means that the shots will not be officially recommended but may be given to people who want them, said a source who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity since they had not been given permission to discuss the details with reporters.
Details of the plans were first reported by The New York Times.
The decision to make fourth doses available now will bypass independent groups of scientific advisers for both the FDA and CDC, which would normally meet and publicly review the available science and then make recommendations to the agencies.

I read that the 4th dose/2nd booster will bring your antibody level to where it was right after the first booster but not more.  There seems to be a ceiling on how much umph you can get from multiple shots.

      Jeesh.  Why the attitude?

This is encouraging. So, assessing your own personal risk against this more aggressively spreading variant means asking yourself how much time has passed since your booster or your second dose of Pfizer or Moderna?

I wish there was clearer info on how the J&J vaccine's protection is this far out from innoculation.

      No attitude intended.

The FDA authorized a fourth Pfizer and Moderna dose for people 50 and over today.  The CDC backed the decision.

I'm inclined to get it soon, more because we have a number of indoor gatherings coming up  - concerts, a big family reunion - than a generalized fear of getting infected in the near future.  I might otherwise be inclined to wait (unless the current uptick in various places foretells a surge here).

There are differences of opinion among the experts about whether the 4th shot is necessary or productive.  Would appreciate links to any informative articles about this.

I just heard on NPR there is going to be a discussion of this today. Maybe on Brian Lehrer's show?

I'm trying to figure out the best time to do this and leaning toward third week of April. Our first boosters were in mid/late November.  We have air travel scheduled in early May (domestic) and then a trip to Ireland in late July and I'm hoping to be as well boosted as possible for both trips.

Scully and I got ours this afternoon at K-mart, behind the dishwasher section.  Breezy, in and out but bring your vac. card.

is there a time factor for getting the fourth shot? It hasn't been 6 months for me yet since shot number 3.

Also I read today that they're recommending mixing up the 4th shot. If you got mrna before, get the J&J this time, and vice versa.

Edited: I seem to be partially wrong about this. Brain fart. Read on.

drummerboy: do you have a link that (mix 4th shot)?

I’ve been doing similar calculations and went for booster #2 last Sunday. I felt it was my “time” - I received my booster #1 in August and am traveling internationally in early May.

What I heard is that it is recommended those who received J&J get an mrna booster, not the other way around.

yes, you might be right concerning the mix and match. can't find what I (thought) I read yesterday.

This forbes article says follow J&J with MRNA

      I'll keep looking.

My cousin got it all figured out. She received the first two Moderna. ....ain't getting any booster, "I'm not letting the gub'mint tell me what to do."

Summit, N.J. - and she has the rattlesnake flag on her lawn.
