Bear Update?

Any word on what happened to the black bear who was spotted through much of Maplewood yesterday, including in front of my house (though not by me)?  I only found out about it when my DIL sent me an email saying the bear had been seen in my next door neighbor's yard.

I saw this on VG today.  I'm always amazed how a bear gets so far through a town without a prior sighting.  Where would they come from initially?  The reservation?  Where was the last sighting?  Wasn't there one in a tree in the golf isnad section awhile back?

When I was driving today, the road divided into two lanes and my GPS said "Bear Left," so I guess it's gone.

I saw him drinking a Pina Colada at Trader Vic's.

I guess today is the day to wear my Lee Ho Fook’s tee shirt.

According to a NWF expert who posted on SOMA Lounge earlier today, this is normal behavior for a young bear newly on his own.  Advice was to leave the bear alone.  The most recent prior bear sightings I recall were the one at Hilton Branch Library cited above and the one at Golf Island which was found next door to a friend of mine who has since moved (but NOT because of the bear).  I asked because I got an email saying that the bear had been sighted on my block.  I was out of town for much of the day yesterday and was curious to learn if anyone knew the bear's whereabouts after it was seen at the Country Club.

I'm going there tonight to get a big dish of beef chow mien.

I remember well that one on golf island. They got him with a tranquilizer and he just dropped right out of the tree. My kids were in middle school at the time.

Some time back, I recall a photograph of a bear on the Maplewood east-bound train platform.

Are there bears resident in the South Mountain Reservation now (news to me, if so) or did this one come from farther away?

In 2007, a bear was relocated from Maplewood to Sussex County NJ where it swam the Delaware and was killed on a Pa highway.
