Google Voice might be worth a look. I don't know if it's possible to control where replies go.
We went with Remind, which has a character limit similar to a Tweet, but works easily across platforms (text/email). Replies do not go to entire list, just to sender.

But then if one person replies to that mass email, does it go to all recipients?
What is the best program/ app for managing text messages distributed to a large group (100+)? I would like to use a spreadsheet to import the cell numbers and manage the list, and would prefer an app that works on both a phone and a computer.
