Amazon buys Whole Foods - Bezos Watch

This is amazing.  I feel like Amazon is really going to take over the world.  Should be interesting.  I just got the Amazon credit card so I could buy a wood chipper for $35.  I wonder what the retail industry will look like in 10 years.   They seem to be making it futile to resist.

https://www.washingtonpost.com...

From the article:

“This deal should leave no doubt that Amazon is deadly serious about dominating all aspects of retail,” Paul Cuatrecasas, chief executive of Aquaa Partners, a London-based investment banking firm, said in an email. “This deal has dramatically flipped the table on traditional companies. Amazon is effectively saying that if retailers are going to tool themselves up with technology, then they will tool themselves up with a physical presence and high-street brand.”

Intentionally chose a Washington Post article?

No.  It was the first to pop up when I googled the purchase after a friend mentioned it to me.  Why do you ask?

Bezos owns it.

Ah.  I see.  That freaks me out a bit.  That's extra creepy.

Here's the NYT article:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/0...

It says it twice in the WaPo article and I missed it.  I was so excited about my $35 wood chipper.  That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Keep you arms out of he wood chipper, Angela..

it has a 1.5 inch maximum capacity, so I'm safe!  Haha.

Prices of shares for food companies dipped.   I lost $150.00  in mutuals...........on paper

Started buying Kroger's based on positive analysis and news,

now the research guys are actually apologizing.

Soon to surpass Gates as richest billionaire in the country, Bezos just asked Twitter for suggestions on how to spend his billions on charity.

Another interesting article on the subject from Huffington Post.

"America's Amazon Problem".

The article says that, "[Bezos] unwittingly implied is that as a citizen, you will have no choice but to interact with his institution to buy and sell key goods that everyone needs — on his terms."

Good article, steel.  And of course,  there's this:

Jeff Bezos Says He Is Selling $1 Billion a Year in Amazon Stock to Finance Race to Space https://nyti.ms/2oKZ04B

Why didn't ya say ya needed a wood chipper. I got one you could'da borrowed.

Darn.  It never occurred to me to ask.  Ah well.  This is a small electric one.  Supposed to arrive today.

"Fargo" is my favorite movie!

I know it's a total thread drift, but is anyone watching the current 'Fargo' mini series with Ewan McGregor? It's the final episode on Wednesday and I've enjoyed it very much!

Any discussion that involves wood chippers is allowed to drift to anything Fargo-related. Goes with the territory.

I bailed on the new FARGO season. Thought it was too arch and tried too hard to be Fargo-like. Loved the first season, though.

It has been a bit far-fetched but still interesting (and unpredictable) to me.  Great acting too - Ewan McGregor playing both brothers and of course, this guy's been great:

I must say, wood chipping is as satisfying as I imagined it would be.

This quote leaves me with the image of Bill Murray, doggedly chasing the ground hog (Caddy Shack) or

"Youuuu waskilly wabbit....

not quite the same, but I've gone shredder-happy since we've moved... cheese

Looks like McGregor does an excellent impression of David Thewlis.

I think you are implying that it sounds a little bit crazy.  In which case, you probably are right.  grin

I added "Bezos Watch" to the thread title. I want to keep up with what this guy is doing.

He's going to be running our consumer lives, eventually.  For 10 years I've said that with exception of certain apparel, fresh grocery, and quick convenience, brick and mortar will be killed by Amazon.  And now he's knocking off one of those three...
