A few questions for my fellow birders

1) How do I attract woodpeckers to my feeders? I have out black sunflower seeds and suet.  Not one woodpecker. Ever.
2) Any hummingbird sightings yet?
Thanks!

 Haven't seen a Hummingbird and last year I spotted my first on 4/22. As for woodpeckers they do like suet cakes. Helps to have a lot of trees around.

first time for a woody at the big back feeder

the upside down suet feeder keeps a lot of the others away ( for the most part)

 I have had good luck with suet feeders I've made out of blocks of wood. I drill holes in them that you can stuff suet into. I can make one for you in about 10 minutes. You just need a place where you can hang it from a wire (that squirrels cannot easily chew through). Once woodpeckers find it you'll have a loyal following, especially when it's cold.

I make my own suet mixture but it's way to melt the cakes you can buy with 10 secs in a microwave. Then you just use butter knife to scoop it out as dab into the holes. It can be messy though. To clean it just scrape out the old residue and wash with soapy water and then soak in bleach a little bit. Once a month or so.

let me know.
