2 Abandoned Guinea Pigs Need a Home or Homes

Someone left 2 adult guinea pigs in a cardboard box on Maplewood Avenue last week. They're vibrant and seem very healthy. We're caring for them, but cannot keep them. Please reply here or email alanochim@gmail.com if you can provide them with a loving home.

I can take one if it is a male. We already have a male.

Hello and thanks for responding. How does one determine gender of a guinea pig?

Just saw the answer on Google. Will check and get back to you. Thanks.

Ummmm.... I have no idea! Maybe check the internet for obvious identifiers, and if that doesn't work, bring them into a local compassionate vet? Poor babies.

One more thing -- I feel bad separating them, so if anyone comes forward for the pair, please give them priority. I think that three would be too much for us. And also, I want to say thank you for rescuing them. This could have ended very differently. People can be so awful sometimes...

It's been more than a few years, but when my kids were little, their nursery school classrooms often had caged pets. Perhaps such a home could be found in the community?

So funny that you say that sac, I am a preschool teacher and "my" pets live at the school! We have a bunny, a guinea pig and a mouse. Have been thinking about a friend for our piggie for awhile. They are very social animals.

I'm stopping by a vet later today to see if they can help.

Hi. The brown one is a male. And he's very much hoping that he can meet your students as soon as possible. Please let me know what I can do to make that happen.

@AlanG Perhaps try Zen Pets. Don took in some little guys and found them a home.. Also as you are in Maplewood, St. Hubert's has a little room with small pets, piggies, hamsters and the like. Nice of you to do this and if none of that works I will post on Petfinder.

I may be interested in one but I couldn't take it until after Christmas.

Hmm, have you found a home yet?

I ADORE Guinea Pigs. My son begged for one when he was little, and finally gave in. We had the guinea pig until he died. That was so many years ago, and it still breaks my heart. He would hang out with us and jump from one of us to the other, and nuzzle our necks. Such a sweet little guy...and very funny!

I would take them if I hadn't had to move to this studio (hopefully for only a year) with my crazy cat. I hope someone takes them asap!

As far as I know they are both still available. We don't know their history, but if they have always been together, we would love to keep it that way. Ace789nj, would you be interested in both? (guinea pigs are known to do better with a friend, they are very social animals.) If not, would you take the female? I could take the male. I have a male already and am looking for a friend for him. Thanks all.

Hi everyone.

Thank you all very much for your interest, support and suggestions. I was contacted by a family who will be taking both critters.

Gratefully,

Alan

Yea what great news! I LOVE our SOMA community!

Hooray! Thank you Alan for rescuing them!
