"Woodstock 50" cancelled.

---after careful consideration....

I was so, gonna break out my old tie-dye and Nehru jacket.

I don’t know if you were kidding but I was vaguely thinking about going.  I was at the big show at Watkins Glen back in the day. It was a blast.

We arrived on a completely chromed Triumph.

Representatives for Woodstock 50, however, shared the following statement with Pitchfork:

We are committed to ensuring that the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock is marked with a festival deserving of its iconic name and place in American history and culture. Although our financial partner is withdrawing, we will of course be continuing with the planning of the festival and intend to bring on new partners. We would like to acknowledge the State of New York and Schuyler County for all of their hard work and support. The bottom line is, there is going to be a Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival, as there must be, and it’s going to be a blast

Sounds like the other statement was from an investor:

It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival. But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees. As a result and after careful consideration, Dentsu Aegis Network’s Amplifi Live, a partner of Woodstock 50, has decided to cancel the festival. As difficult as it is, we believe this is the most prudent decision for all parties involved.

I guess time will tell.

Obviously the problem is that they don't have Maplewoodstock's organizers.

The repeated reference to "brands" tells me Woodstock is a thing better left in the past.

I think they want to sell the "Woodstock" brand to whomever is planning an event.

Ja Rule needs to make it happen.

Because Woodstock 30 was such a success...

I'd like to see it named the Ticketmaster Woodstock Festival offering a highly curated arts and music festival celebrating the counter culture with tiered services and premium VIP only events. General admission starts at $500. Then, just like the original Woodstock only a fraction of attendees actually pay to get in and the rest just crash. All the loot at the VIP events gets raided and redistributed to the masses as an emergency measure as no one anticipated such an enormous crowd. The outraged paid attendees eventually vent their rage in the form of a class-action suit that puts Ticketmaster out of business.

The first part seems very likely, the second part seems equally unlikely.

 I can dream can't I?

I couldn't be more pleased by this news, and would hope that anyone who was there in '69 would feel the same... BTW: God Bless John Morris

The main reason it's cancelled:

"Tickets for Woodstock 50 still have not gone on sale, but co-founder and organizer Michael Lang revealed this week that prices will be $450 for three-day passes. No single-day tickets are expected to be offered."
