"Pocahontas" Pwns President

Elizabeth Warren calls Trump's bluff.  Hilarity ensues.

This story has everything that everyone should dislike about Trump: the outright lies about how Senator Warren actually described herself; the mocking of her with offensive stereotypes; the blowhard challenge; the classic denial that he said something that can be seen on video; the backing out of a deal; actually using the "junk science" argument; a creepy misogynistic statement that he wants to test her himself (adding, "That will not be something I enjoy doing either").

it would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic.

I thought it was pretty silly, but you'd think the White Nationalists would like her more now.

Remember that time the president screwed a porn star and then called her Horseface on Twitter? I can see why he appeals to you guys so much.

It’s one thing if Warren claims some Native American ancestry as a point of trivia. If, however, she claimed it on any applications or forms, it becomes a bit indefensible.

I’m 0.0009765625% certain that she did not.

It's becoming clear that the bullying is a big part of Trump's appeal for a lot of people.  And when I hear people say "that's not who we are as a country," I can only think -- yes, it is who we are as a country.  Or at least who a lot of us are in this country.  Otherwise, how would a guy who goes around the country holding rallies in which a big part of the show is mocking and ridiculing people still have a 40% approval rating?  For that many people at the very least the bullying isn't a deal breaker.

Is it politically incorrect to point out that trump's DNA most certainly makes him of the "race" that gave us two World Wars and the Holocaust?

Just asking.

Stiormey Daniels just punked him. He called her, “ Horseface.”   She responded, “Game on, Tiny.”

Now that is dealing with Trump at his level

I think Warren f***ed up on this. Too bad, but I think she's toast.

She's made herself the next Hillary.  Congrats to her.

yeah, that's not a bad way of looking at it.

 Hmmm, yes.

 Destined to lose to Trump?

Sure, the German people might be a bit murdery, but they also gave us pretzels. And without them Star Trek and countless other Sci Fi shows wouldn’t have their go-to villains every time the writers got a bit lazy

Toast with crab with tomato mayonnaise dressing on top.

whatever.

No matter what Warren did, Trump and his followers were going to continue the taunts.  So if she runs for president in 2020, all of this is already baked into her support or lack of support.  If she manages to win the nomination, taking this DNA test and releasing the results won't change the attacks on her one bit from what they would have been otherwise.

I suppose the real question would be whether this dustup has eroded support for her among Democrats.  Maybe, but I don't think it changes anything.

I think some folks here are overlooking one enormously important fact.  It doesn't matter who runs for president in 2020 as a Democrat. Trump, his party, right wing media, and (unfortunately likely) the mainstream media will endlessly repeat some sort of tremendously exaggerated or possibly completely phony accusation against him or her.  Essentially nothing any of the potential candidates do or don't do at this stage is going to change that calculation.

If you take a look at the video she has up at elizabethwarren.com where she explains her Native American ancestry.  All theses folks showing some percentages of how much Indian is she is nonsense .

I recommend watching the video.  Warren is one of the great Americans in my book and diminishing what she’s been able to accomplish and how hard she fights for the middle and working class is counterproductive.

I agree that Warren is toast. Even CNN called her gambit "a swing and a miss". The projected Democratic field is just too crowded and too competitive for her to get past this ... I suspect big Democratic donors will land elsewhere.

all these pundits also called Donald Trump "toast" at several points during 2015-16.  So to me, their credibility is nil.

Warren has always said that references to Native American heritage were based on family legends that were passed down to her.  How many families have those kinds of stories, and why on earth would any child disbelieve the legends?  I had a friend growing up who was told his family had Native American heritage.  Turned out when he grew up he found out the truth was that there was an African American ancestor.  But in the differently racist past, the black ancestor was changed to Native American in the legend.

It's a big non-story, but because it's simplistic it works to Trump's advantage among his credulous Twitter followers.

It would be a non-story if it were purely a family legend thing. But it's a story (and it has been for years), because she has claimed minority status in her career endeavours.

Did she benefit from making such specious claims?  That answer appears to be no.

But was her reason for making the claims to put herself in a position to gain personal benefit? Quite possibly. Her supporters would say no, but her critics would say yes.

It matters because I sure as f*ck don’t want four more years of Trump. Rational voters wouldn’t give a damn about this, but as the last presidential election showed, there are a lot of irrational voters.  This hurt her brand.

the article you're citing says there is no evidence that Warren ever claimed minority status to get a job.  "Her critics" are saying the opposite with no evidence.

Appearance of impropriety. She doesn’t have to have actually done anything, it’s too late.

Thinking she can win against Trump now is wishful thinking and will only lead to four more years of Trump.  This is no longer about her policies or whether she would be good for the country, it is all about if she can win, and that answer is no.

Well if this does sink Warren let it happen now rather than in a year or two when the Democratic party presumably would have invested a lot more in her candidacy.

At this time she's a leading contender but she's only 1 of a dozen or however many hopefuls.

As a rule of thumb, if you have to use genetic testing to prove minority status, then you probably shouldn’t ever claim such status on any forms.

Right, but there is evidence that she checked a box for Minority/Native American, which leaves her motivation for doing so open for interpretation.

Let me ask you this -- if she didn't check the box as a way to personally benefit (even if she didn't end up personally benefiting), why do you reckon she checked the box?
