Coffee House Discussion: Talking About Race in Online Groups & Forums In response to recent, local online incidents that have been hurtful and have moved away from SOMA’s vision of civility and equity for all, the Community Coalition on Race is hosting a Coffee House Discussion on Wednesday, April 18 at The Baird Community Center in South Orange from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. The Coalition’s intention is to offer an opportunity for the community to discuss what it means to be a responsible online poster. We will be asking about online codes of conduct, including how one deals with trolls, personal attacks, and racial invective; how to foster legitimate dialogue and how we address the impact that these exchanges have on individuals, as well as our community- both internally and externally. We invite you to bring your thoughts, concerns, and ideas for healing when online conversations transgress our collective inclusive values.
